That sounds like a recipe for big government to me.

Apart from maybe culture, what kind of things does the Government do that wouldn't come under one of those categories?

I was just on the way home and I got stuck behind a bin van and thought of you. I'm currently living in (the Socialist Republic of) Vietnam, and it was at that moment that I realised we get a bin collection every day.

Interesting. Maybe it's just UK government and public sector services that are shit, as opposed to those in other countries. I would not be surprised. We certainly IMO have a pretty poor work ethic as a society, compared to some others. We've been "rich" for 200 years and have a sense of entitlement and thinking that xyz job is beneath us, and that we should be paid "more", compared to the attitudes I see in some other countries.

To be fair, in properly socialist countries (or dictatorships generally), labour is cheap, and there's a huge emphasis on keeping everyone employed whether they're doing something productive or not. Stops dictators getting overthrown.
 
If anyone cares say goodbye to Talk TV as Oakeshott and Fat Mike "out" a very rich man and a former DPP dropping hints about their sexuality - I'd expect the station owners to distance themselves from these two or be sued into oblivion

I've absolutely no idea. It would not suprise me in the least however.

I just feel this guy is dishonest to the very core and having seen that for themselves, the media are now out to get him. And that ultimately something is going to bring about his downfall, and I don't mean in 10 years.

You know the old expression no-one likes a smart arse? Well they certainly don't like a smarmy, self-serving, dishonest smart arse and that's the pigeon hole the media and much of the public have firmly put him in. I don't think it's a hole he will be able to climb out of.
