Keir Starmer

I'm not advocating no government. Just small government please. Privatize what would benefit from privatization, and if it would not then sure let the state run it. But my list of the latter is rather shorter than Starmer's (or god forbid, Rayner's).

Off the top of my head, I would like the state to:
  • Keep us safe, domestically and from international threats
  • Heal us when sick
  • Educate our kids
  • Look after the poor and those unable to care for themselves
  • Look after us in our old age
  • Provide an environment for business to thrive
Is there anything I've forgotten in there?
CAPITALS..

There was a time when working late, or at a weekend would have been classed as unsocial. God forbid people wanting to see their kids.

Phoning up some poor sod up at night when the footy is about to start over a sodding bin or even in the private sector missing an anniversary over a loaf of bread at 2am is not progress.

Society has declared that we are now a 24/7 working environment.

Really I'm part of society no one asked me? Who was it?

Mainly people who work Mon to Fri.

Boss " can you work Saturday Hilts"

"Nah mate I have a life"

" we are desperate"

"You do it then"

"It's not my job"

"It's not mine either on a Saturday or after 40yrs, ttfn"

God my employees are so lazy, why won't they work more so I don't have to.
I'm old enough to remember when we were told nobody would be forced to work on a Sunday..

Show me any examples of successful far right entirely free market economies over the past 120 years and you might have a point.

Oh wait, there aren't any.

See it's easy to argue against a bullshit strawman. But you literally had a list of shit you think the government should run earlier in the thread. So even you don't believe your own bollocks.
Hahaha ha. Love that.

That sounds like a recipe for big government to me.

Apart from maybe culture, what kind of things does the Government do that wouldn't come under one of those categories?

Nazi Germany? Until it all went tits up for them on account of then wanting to fight everyone like a gypsy in a pub.

Would it be convenient if you to contact your local council about a failed bin collection, when you got home from work at 19:30? Yes, it might be. Are they open? No, they have fucked off home, because it doesn't matter to them whether you have great service or not. They don't really care. No "sale" is lost, no-one gets fired, mediocre is just fine.
I was just on the way home and I got stuck behind a bin van and thought of you. I'm currently living in (the Socialist Republic of) Vietnam, and it was at that moment that I realised we get a bin collection every day.

Interesting. Maybe it's just UK government and public sector services that are shit, as opposed to those in other countries. I would not be surprised. We certainly IMO have a pretty poor work ethic as a society, compared to some others. We've been "rich" for 200 years and have a sense of entitlement and thinking that xyz job is beneath us, and that we should be paid "more", compared to the attitudes I see in some other countries.

To be fair, in properly socialist countries (or dictatorships generally), labour is cheap, and there's a huge emphasis on keeping everyone employed whether they're doing something productive or not. Stops dictators getting overthrown.

If anyone cares say goodbye to Talk TV as Oakeshott and Fat Mike "out" a very rich man and a former DPP dropping hints about their sexuality - I'd expect the station owners to distance themselves from these two or be sued into oblivion

Fucking hilarious.
“It’s an open secret that there’s something people don’t know”
Does she know how stupid she sounds?

Well we'll see won't we. I wonder how "hilarious" you're going to find things in a few months time. Tick tock, tick tock.
Do you think it’s an open secret at Westminster that there’s something about Starmer that people don’t know?

It’s laughable because it’s gibberish.

I've absolutely no idea. It would not suprise me in the least however.

I just feel this guy is dishonest to the very core and having seen that for themselves, the media are now out to get him. And that ultimately something is going to bring about his downfall, and I don't mean in 10 years.

You know the old expression no-one likes a smart arse? Well they certainly don't like a smarmy, self-serving, dishonest smart arse and that's the pigeon hole the media and much of the public have firmly put him in. I don't think it's a hole he will be able to climb out of.

You’re still not getting it.

An open secret can’t be about something that nobody knows. That’s not a secret, it’s an oxymoron.
