I’m not a Starmer sycophant. I’d love for our country to be run similar to that in Scandinavia.

Sadly, we don’t have the numbers to get there yet and a vote for Brexit was always going to mean a lurch to the right, rather than the left.

Maybe you’re playing the long game and hoping that as the country burns, a new socialist approach will rise like a phoenix.

He wasn’t very good at communicating what he wanted. Maybe because he was fending off all sorts of accusations like what you have done to me here.

If you want to affect real change, you need the oratory skills and charisma to take people with you. Corbyn didn’t have that.

His main problem was the baggage he brought and the people he surrounded himself with. It was far too easy for the opposition to destroy his credibility.

A new wiser Corbyn would win the next election imho. I don't know if one exists though.

The main problem was what Gramsci called "hegemonic control" this occurs when the intellectual and moral leadership provided by the dominant class provides the fundamental outlook for the whole of society. As we live in a pro free market capitalist society then the "hegemonic control" comes from the Capitalists. Anybody outside this control is easily dismissed as we saw with Corbyn who challenged the hegemony.

Yeah but I meant competent and would actually make fundamental change. We will likely end up with a well intended fiddler who also sees personal advantages that comes with the position.

I understand why those a little further left ain't doing a jig over such an outcome. Can't say I would be overly excited myself.

I do get that. Rome wasn’t built in a day though.

Starmer isn’t good enough to persuade enough to the central ground let alone to the left.

Which is why unfortunately you need complete disasters of govt to wake people up. Otherwise we just go round and round. Nudge one way nudge back the other. Spend loads of money and end up standing pretty much still.

Which is at best what will happen. The status quo will continue, they win as per usual. I've personally given up on the general public.

I would be willing to take a hit but maybe that's because I know it ain't happening:-) A lot of people do alright I suppose so I understand their resistance to what would be a gamble.
