Keir Starmer

why come for political debate if you won’t engage ?
I stick up for poor pensioners mate not debate daft points that will never ever happen.

Pensioners who get less than the minimum wage to live on after a lifetime of paying NI and promises of being looked after - after working 50 years.

You did not live in the 70's and 80's mate on shit money and hard graft . No cushy offices for us or big pensions, big wages or even minimum wages.

Exactly how much do you think Pensioners should be allowed to receive before being clobbered?

£12,000? £20,000? £50,000?

What do you consider a living wage/pension? (keep in mind not all pensioners have big fuck off houses that you want them turfed out of)

I don’t think any reasonable person wants to attack poor pensioners mate, but there are plenty of wealthy ones hoarding their significant wealth to the detriment of younger generations.

Not sure what the answer is but it’s definitely a huge problem for society.

There was an opportunity for the Government to collect loads of Brownie points here in this particular aregument.

When they proposed cutting the WFA all they had to do was say.... "any pensioners that have income that means they are paying a higher rate of tax then their WFA stops". - Simple!

I know that would not raise billions but.... it would have saved a lot more than they are now and it would have been a platform from which they could launch/consider further options. Instead of that they plunged in like Billy big bollocks at the deep end only to learn it was only six inches deep with no big splash.

It was as about as stupid and naive a policy as you could have thpught up at that time.

Better than the alternatives his previous job makes him relatively qualified for the unique job doing a good job with Europe and the rest of the world
Relatively qualified is a very strong argument for him indeed:-)

Btw you have no idea how the alternatives would do unless you also live in a parallel universe, which you don't.

Do you think Starmer will agree to stepping down then, and not put himself forward if there is a challenge?
I find him hard to read to be honest.
I think if Burnham gets in to the race he will have to do the decent thing on fall on his sword which he should have done already. He probably doesn't know fully where he stands in terms of support.

I think psychologically it will be easier for him to step aside for Burnham than Streeting.

Not being given the opportunity to rent a house, so forcibly being made to go into the housing market and get a mortgage. Being told how lucky I was to have a job because Johnny foreigner was far more competitive. Not being able to afford kids which led to the demise of my wife's general mental health and eventually death. Taking a lump sum out of my pension, stepped. A small redundancy payment. Yep, I've got some money in the bank, but only at the back end of my life. If that's what you can call it. Far too much entitlement nowadays.

Don't worry the bluemoon parliament will sort it all out.

Rent controls , more house building and no benefits for anyone receiving over £25,000 a year?

Perhaps I should have said something different my point is the pension and specifically the triple lock is unaffordable.

Someone rang in to LBC the other day and pointed out that the current pensioners paid in when average wages where 25k a year so they paid about 1000 of tax a year but are taking out about 12 000 for state pension

You also have to think we have a group of pensioners who don’t need it big private pensions houses worth lots, another group who had good work place schemes final salary / defined benefit don’t exist anymore for my generation and now we might one day hopefully have a group who have been in compulsory work place schemes and have used apps / crypto / forex etc to do well.

Also we will have a group of people who will inherit large estates just as they reach retirement.

Technology assets prices and the state of the economy and demographics mean we need radical overhaul.

Alan Sugar doesn’t need a pension
Yet loads of other countries pay a bigger state pension than us. Why you trying to harm some of the poorest people in the country?

It's your language and tone that is both childish and soppy.

"infantile twat".

"Did you climax after posting that - fucking embarrassing and child like!

Pretty immature and childish speak don't you think?

Are you embarrassed for starting such silly responses? you should be.

BTW Starmer is certainly a dead man walking wouldn't you agree?

"

Why would you possibly want a response from me ?

You seem more than a little confused.

But he's never said that. The essential unfairness is that on average the poorest pensioners get less pension than the richest pensioners - because, being rich, they live longer so take the pension for many more years than poor pensioners, so get way more benefit from the pension. (They've probably paid more tax, but these 25/30 years of pensions are being paid for now by people in work with vastly higher housing costs and who won't get the pension till 68 or later.)

Are you suggesting that those in receipt of a pension today had it easy in their working life?
