Keir Starmer

Phillips got a nice little 'celebrity' article in The Sunday Times.

Rightly or wrongly, the media have a big impact on our perceptions of politicians, so it's a case of having to play the game really and accept that if we want power it's got to be someone the media can tolerate. Phillips also represents a break from Corbyn which the party desperately needs to be seen to be done IMO. If Corbyn and McDonnell simply pave the way for their chosen successor, and it sounds like Rebecca Long-Bailey, I fear more of the same as she'll just get painted as 'Corbyn's girl'.

McCluskey was just on Sky News saying the new leader should be of the newer generation of MP's.

He also said that policy shouldn't change as it was popular with the electorate.

You could be right about RLB.

It should from the new crop from the 2015 elections and after.

Who is anyones guess, let's see who puts up.

I think it is disengenous to these young MPs to say they will be puppets of McDonnel if they become leader, what will be telling is whoever becomes leader who they surround themselve with at shadow cabinet level and who refuses to serve.

Lets have a mancunian take over of the party.

Raynor as leader
Khan as Deputy
Gynne as chancellor
Long baily as home secretary
Powell as foriegn secretary
Kane as education
Smith as defence

RLB would be a terrible mistake by them, and a joy from the Tories' perspective. If it's really badly broke, please don't fix it.

Labour lost not because of Brexit or Corbyn or anti-semitism. But because they are out of touch with the mood of the country. Corbyn in a dress is not the answer.

I have to be honest and say I don't know much about RLB (I've only seen a couple of interviews and she sounded ok tbh) but the one thing I do know is that, if she's been recommended by John McDonnell, we need to listen to him and then do the exact opposite. If he had any clue what the country wanted, Labour wouldn't have suffered its worst defeat since 1935.

Now I am confused, since friday the "moderates" have been calling for corbyn to go now, yet now Jenny Formby has set a time table with the new leader in place by the end of march, they are moaning it is being done quickly so they cannot formulate a choice of candidate.

Red Jonny let the cat out of the bag this morning on his sofa when he said he favoured Long Bailey.

It's a good job the next election is 5 years away because right now the party is fucked. Anyone who thinks it should just appoint Jess phillips as leader and all will be good don't understand how the left of the party will leave the party en mass. The left don't understand that they can't win without he centre. They have to find a way to come together or else they will just lose be Tory enablers for the foreseeable. I would like it to be something like this:

RLB leader
Jess phillips Deputy
Angela Rayner on the front bench with a few other northerners
2017 Manifesto with a few moderate adjustments
Momentum for the ground game and to keep influencing the youth.

You need to bin the daft nationalisation plans as well. Not renewing rail franchises is one thing, but spending tens or hundreds of billions on buying back utility companies is enormously stupid. Left wing ideologically driven nonsense. We don't have the money and if we did, there are FAR better things to spend it on.

*Rail nationalisation is incredibly stupid as well, BTW. 80% of current disruptions are are caused by Network Rail (already nationalised) and the rest are down to underfunding, which would be fixed by more government spending. Renationalisastion is completely unnecessary.

Nationalisation is popular amongst the public. They need to be wiser about it though, offer one per term and stop scaring voters by trying to change the entire infrastructure of the country. And start with utilities and fuck transport and broadband, for now.

Angela fucking Rayner, she’s a female Corbyn, shouldn’t be anywhere near the next Shadow Cabinet if Labour is to become credible.

The single lesson Labour need to learn here is that it is more important to get the party elected than it is to be ideologically pure. Ideological purity is great in the sixth form common room, but we need a credible opposition. Listening to the chatter about this leadership election and it's pretty fucking clear they haven't learned this lesson.

The left you say that would leave the party is exactly what it needs, and that list of chosen successors, including Momentum, would ensure
that Labour never gets in. It's baffling to many why people think that carrying on with a Corbynista is the way to rescue the
Labour party, but now it's in the grip of this cult, that looks like it's going to happen.
In 5 years time, you'll be on here again wondering why the working class have not returned to you, we keep telling you
the reasons, but it just won't register. The youth you keep relying on are growing up, the 18 year olds replacing them have
never influenced an election, yet there's still this blind faith in them.

That's balls. She'll be adaptable with a new leader and she's a solid performing, strong northern woman. There aren't enough of them around to dismiss her.
