Keir Starmer

I'd prefer if there weren't violent thugs attacking police and other people's property. Change and progress was made earlier last week when it was peaceful, now the government are on about "justice" for all the crime committed instead.

I'd also like it acknowledged that we have social distancing rules, that it was inexcusable and shameful for them to be wilfully breached in such manner and that the lives of other people in society, including the most vulnerable who the rest of society have been shielding to protect them from the actual pandemic happening in our country at the moment, matter. Because based on the actions and rhetoric from last weekend, only certain types of people's lives matter, the rest are there to be sacrificed through Covid if needs be and their sacrifices and selfless contribution to society are apparently worthless. Some message to send out.

I am afraid the actions of Cummings saw the end of that, if he had been sacked then I am sure people would have carried on doing what they have done for the last 3 months. The inaction if anything threw fuel on the fire.

This is a terrible excuse.

Cummings should have been sacked but those that were outraged, quite rightly, at his behaviour then go and do worse, they’ve lost all moral high ground.

You are right, but it's an excuse nonetheless. I imagine his actions, and lack of remorse or retribution, will have seeded a 'don't give a fuck' attitude in many.

Tbh honest rascal, much as Cummings is a lying little toad it was the media screaming that we could now do what we wanted in an increasingly desperate effort to get him sacked that influenced public attitudes.

I agree mate but it doesn’t make it right.

If Johnson says people have “watermelon smiles” I can’t then go and do it myself and blame it on him, sure he’s setting a bad example but the individual adult has to take responsibility for their own actions.

The one thing these protests have done is expose deep hypocrisy in some people, when it comes to the virus.

I never noticed that the execution of the Queen in the Tower of London was in the last Labour manifesto, I must read it more closely.

Cromwell was a military dictator, a god botherer and imperialist. Not really Socialist principles to be honest. Although the abolition of property rights is a good move, I suspect it was to neuter the power of the landed class of Barons who would have been Royalists.

Its a bit like saying Herod was a conservative because he killed kids. Pretty good qualifications to be a Tory as they are doing it with foodbanks and poverty
They say it's the Tories who would execute HMQ if it kept them in power but your description of Cromwell reminds me of Tony Benn.

In this day and age, personal responsibility and accountability should be at the core of decent people, regardless of what cunts get up to. It's not an excuse to put other people's lives in danger, and it's completely counter-productive to the message that needs to be spread.

The whole of Liverpool was built off the slave trade using the Liver building was symbolic although could be factually challenged t,here are plenty of examples which would have been more relevant. Town Hall etc.
So rubbish about the Liver Building...

Manchester Royal Exchange? Every cotton mill in Lancashire and Cheshire? You can't avoid your slavery history by saying it was elsewhere.

You are talking about Cummings aren't you?

That's right - if you or your family or ancestors worked in the textile trade and were kept barely alive by the poverty wages paid by the evil, racist, colonialist, imperialist bosses in question - you need to tip up a contribution to those who were similarly exploited by the same capitalists but in a different continent two hundred years ago - or more specifically their relatives or sympathisers over here now.

Such a rambling post, but if you want I can refer you to early 19th century complaints that the great and the good were for abolition of slavery in the plantations but quite content with slavery in local factories. Do try the People's History Museum or the Working Class Movement Library if you want to know about labour history.

Back to Starmer, I didn't know he had a radio show with Nick Ferrari. Having just seen the latter use the "if you don't like it here then leave" trope to a black presenter, I sincerely hope KS calls him out on this.

I thought you liked rambling Vic, only one sentence though - bad for short attention spans. It boils down to asking why doesn't everybody join the queue of malcontents demanding compo and where does it lead?
