Keir Starmer

It's the arrogance I can't stand.

His party has just been given a drubbing, thousands of Labour councillors removed under his leadership and he STILL thinks he's the guy to turn things around before 2029!? Every opinion poll suggests otherwise, every commentator points to him as being the problem in Labour, but does he listen?

He has to go, there's still enough time for Labour to regroup, rethink their direction and policies, regain the trust of those they used to represent and prevent a calamity at the next general election.
The longer he lingers, the more difficult the rebuild.
He's so fucking up himself, he cannot even understand *he* is the problem. His face when the commons pissed themselves at his "frankly unbelievable" comment, says everything. He could not comprehend the fact that people regard him as a joke.

After 30 years of dishing it out, he is living in his own bubble where he is above everyone else. And it shows... Which is the main reason he is so unpopular.

He’s made bad decisions but a fringe party was getting in anyway next, the country is absolutely finished and it’s only going to get worse no matter who won in 2024. Labour have made poor decisions with regards to the economy and managed to slow it more so than under Sunak’s government but medium to long term we’re going down anyway.

The UK is currently Burnley under Labour, it was West Ham under Sunak and it’ll be Wolves under Green or Reform. It’s going down anyway but it’s just a choice on how quick that happens.

We're about to find out whether reform are like Wolves (I think they are). I'd like to find out if the Greens or any left-wing party would be as bad.

Not a massive SKS fan but chopping and changing PMs doesn’t seem particularly helpful. Let him serve out his time.
Exacerbated by a two party FPTP system; people voting with their feet re. the two party model now and time to upgrade the voting system too imo.
We could be on the cusp of this. It is genuinely exciting and hopeful

Not his fault mate. Nowt to do with him. It was Liz Truss. Or Brexit. Or Johnson. Or all of us. Yeah it’s our fault.

Beyond improving communication and perhaps appearing more connected with working people, particularly those outside of London, changing the leader will likely make little material difference. Power and wealth are shifting inexorably eastwards, and the post-2016 legacy continues to drag the country down.

This thread is hilarious, blaming everything and everyone except the nonentity that is supposed to be in charge of running the government. Unbelievable.
He’s at fault, don’t get me wrong, but he’s only been in power 2 years and it’s been shit for a lot longer than that.

That doesn't wash, I'm sorry. He's been the leader of the Labour Party for longer. His faction stitched up the selection process so his "high-quality candidates" got in.

You also need to stop calling Liz Truss fit, you weirdo.

I wonder if those slagging Liz Truss off have the intellectual capacity to work out where she went wrong. I seriously doubt it.

Here you go, knock yourself out

Her fatal flaw was probably surrounding herself with people who would or could not challenge her.

Her chief of staff was a political campaigner who openly admitted to having very limited knowledge about policy. Her chancellor was an old political friend and ally who said that he saw his job as delivering the PM's wishes. Her cabinet secretary had been told she planned to sack him and, insiders believe, did not want to stand up to her whilst his position was insecure.

Truss was the Conservative Party members' choice to be PM. MPs who were not her supporters rushed to endorse her once they saw she was going to win. The Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph hailed her as Margaret Thatcher's successor. Her most ardent supporters attacked Rishi Sunak as a socialist.

She, and they, gambled. Many would say, the country paid the price

It's from Feb 2023....
Thanks for pinpointing the exact month and year during the 'shaking off the fleas' period

Starmer: If you don't like Labour changes leave

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has said said Labour has changed permanently under his leadership.

He said "if you don't like that, if you don't like the changes that we've made, I say the door is open, and you can leave".

His comments came as the Equalities and Human Rights Commission confirmed they were satisfied with the changes Labour had made to stop unlawful acts of harassment and discrimination since Sir Keir took over.

but then again there was a time when you recognised that the EHRC was anything but an independent arbiter.

No. Think he handled certain things well.

Truss is a low bar, I’ll grant you that.
Completely agree, done lots of things right but, lacks the image and connection needed to get through to the electorate, he needs to go.

We've become a nation that picks personality over policy and the right wing media backed by foreign billionaires pick the darling to do their biding.

Unfortunately, we're gonna have to go through self inflicted 70s type economical pain before people finally wake up.

Liz Truss was the first time I was certain that the PM was younger than me, as well as being intellectually inferior to me.

Average intelligence at best. And stupid in all the ways that really matter.

Not especially arsed about all that Oxbridge shite. Some clever cunts go there for sure, but not everyone who goes there is a clever ****. I’ve met plenty of them who aren’t that smart.
