I don't think Debryune is better at carrying the ball from deep, nor do I think he shoes greater fitness. Neither of the 2 tend to be long ball passers, albeit admittedly Debryune is more likely to go long.Perhaps because DeBruyne is better at passing the ball long or/and is better at carrying the ball from deep.
Could also be the case that the more withdrawn role requires a higher level of fitness?
@schfc6 described Debryune's style above as "outstanding interspersed with frustration." I agree with that characterization. And would further suggest the "frustration" part often occurs when he loses the ball cheaply. Thus, in deciding who gets more FaceTime nearer our goal, I'd have thought the guy who was most judicious with possession will get that nod. As was the case earlier on the season.
As for the Isco thingy, yes yes its been my dream too. :)
