Kevin De Bruyne 2016/17

People need to accept that he had a poor game. It's done now and we move on but he shouldn't be given a pass because of what he's done previous.

I don't blame him for shooting and based on Navas' position in goal, he'd have scored if he'd have hit the target. It was a very clever attempt and one that shows KDB has a very intelligent football brain. All game we'd tried to get somewhere from set pieces, KDB's deliveries had been excellent for the most part but Navas was all over them. Even from open play, Jesus Navas played a great ball across for Aguero but Navas was on his toes to collect it at his feet. KDB had picked up on this and knew Navas would be edging out to collect the ball from the air so tried to score at the near post and if you watch replays he caught the keeper out, but missed the target unfortunately.

KDB was poor in general though, misplacing passes and trying to force the game too much as he became frustrated by how poor we were.

1. You said he goes hiding when it matters. He doesn't.

2. Last night doesn't exist in a bottle. A sub-par performance doesn't suddenly make KDB not brilliant just like we aren't all talking about getting rid of Aguero.

3. That KDB is a good player isn't in doubt. If he isn't being utilized correctly that's a managerial problem. His lackluster performance mirrored the same in a majority of the team. Blame Pellegrini for that.
Who's talking about getting rid? He's a top player who was shit last night when we needed a big performance. That's all there is to it.

The thread has the wrong title. It should be, have we got the players for a decent starting eleven?

Sorry, still one of the most ridiculous threads on here regardless of one match performance, lad.

It's about context, lad. There was a thread started called "Can Silva still command a place in our starting 11" and he got dug out for every single mistake and sub par game he had, despite him playing through excruciating pain all season and sacrificing himself for the team.

In the interests of balance, I started this thread to give people the platform to discuss DeBruyne's mistakes and bad games.

He's a brilliant footballer, I've said it countless times, he's arguably the best counter attacking player in Europe. But he shit out last night, went missing, hid. And he's got previous for it. West Ham away, the derby away, Arsenal away to name just 3. Completely anonymous, lacking in any kind of drive and scared to get on the ball in case he made a mistake.

I'm sick of people calling him a "playmaker". A playmaker always wants the ball, even when up against it and not playing well they always offer feet and an outlet. Always looking to get on the ball. Retains possession, dictates play, knits the team together. DeBruyne does none of those things. If you give him a load of space he'll play an early ball in front of runners and he's got an incredible shot. But playmaker? Not for me.

Maybe it would be better to change the thread title? Otherwise people might get the wrong impression of your views and think you want to sell him or bench him.

Although in jest, last night I did comment "well, that's why Mou got rid of him".

Needs to get that kind of performance out of his system, needs to step it up CONSISTENTLY when he's asked to be the man. Sure he was played out of position, but I can easily see why it infuriated Mou, and would annoy Pep, when he gives away the ball so easily when it was critical for him not only to keep hold of it, but create something with it. He was also jogging around the pitch far too much last night and I wanted to see those bursts of drive and really taking it to the Madrid backline which he simply refused to do. I don't know why it had to take Sterling & Kelechi to come on to get some of that tempo going, it's a natural thing to KDB but he failed miserably in every aspect last night. We struggled at times in the PSG games but at least he showed something and thus got the reward, he didn't show anything in this tie.

At times I think he looked around at the players in the team and was thinking oh Fuck I have to show it all tonight and he failed badly. Passing was shit end product too it was a bad night at the office. If he has more creative players around him we see the best of him. Last nights starting line up a finished Yaya to play with and a doubled marked Kun for most of the night. How when we got the chances to create it just didnt work for him. Think MP tatics were poor last night. Why didnt we go direct and push someone up front a big guy for the last 15 minutes i will never understand chasing a goal to get to the final madness.

Messi also misplaced a pass by 3mm the other day, personally i think he should offer one of his kidneys as a sign of contrition for this unforgivable act.

Some of the shit written here is just that, complete shite.
not his best night at all but ffs some of you if not trolls are pathetic in the extreme.

So you're comparing De Bryune to Messi? Give your head a wobble mate. One is an all time great the other is a very good PL and Bundesliga player who has yet to prove he can do it at the highest level. Hopefully he will but on the evidence of both matches against Madrid he's a long way off.

Anybody think the heat & sun may have contributed to his game? His face clearly showed to me he was suffering after 5 mins.
Also, so many players rested for Southampton game, surely they could have been flown over earlier to adjust to hot conditions.
