Kevin De Bruyne 2016/17

Sevilla, PSG, Everton. Say what you want about the quality of the opposition but they were vital games which he put in a good performance.

I doubt anyone would say he was faultless but people need to stop trying to find a scapegoat and accept that we lost last night (and have been shit at various points this season) as a team.

It not Yaya's fault for being bone idle, it's not Otamendi's for being reckless, Navas' for having no end product, De Bruyne's for not defending from the front or Manuel's for his baffling decisions.

Teams win and lose as a unit. Too often we've looked like a funeral buffet instead of the three course meal we have the ingredients to make.

I think Messi's otherworldlyness makes him a rather unfair comparison.
My point is, that if a great, world class player signs for us, the metric of - oh well, he's only been with us for one year - is besides the point.

Look at the player's career as a whole and judge him accordingly.

KDB has been extremely good for us this year, in spite of being idiotically played out of position time and again.

Under Pep - who can figure out where best to play his players - KDB will be our best or 2nd best player by far (I think that Kun will be right up there as well, they both have so much untapped potential it's hard to tell who will have the better season).

I look at the player's career, his performance this season and still reaches the same conclusion. Whilst he's been very good, definitely contender for player of the season, I also see a large amount of careless passing, which is what hinder him from being considered the best player in our squad, at least for me. And with only one year with us, I doubt Messi will be considered a legend.

I think under Pep he may have to play out of position time and again too. The Cruyff model does not include a number 10, for he believes that the midfield and the forward will be isolated if the attacking midfielder is too far up the field. So I think KDB has to adapt his game slightly and even learn to play in the wings, which he shows at times this season that he can do it.

Under Pep I expect to see Kun up top, KDB in the hole, and Silva needing to adapt.

But this is pure speculation.

I respect your opinion - we'll need to await next season to see what happens.

But for those who question whether or not KDB has a place in our starting 11... we'll they're either wind-up-merchants... or they have no clue.

Oh I believe if you read the posts, you would find that they are not really questioning KDB's place in the starting 11. It's just a mockery of a thread once named "Can David Silva still command a place in our starting 11". The authour probably feels that the amount of digs and criticisms Silva received a few months ago is not justified given he has been playing in pain (which I agree with), and that KDB, who at that time was in poor form as well, had been given a free pass. So he started the thread to list some flaws in KDB's game. That's all. It was not started only after yesterday's display.

I agree about Silva needing to adapt too, though it is probably not due to KDB in the hole, but rather that Pep's favoured formation has always been 4-3-3. And that he normally doesn't play a no. 10. That's why I think KDB, even if he played behind the striker, would face different requirements. But who knows? Maybe he will play him as a false-9 or a holding midfielder.;)

Touche!

I look forward to next season :-)

So if we sign Messi next year, we shouldn't count him as best player in our squad. After all, he's only been with us 1 year.
Can someone make their argument without mentioning Messi? It kind of makes you look desperate.
He shouldn't even be brought up when talking about KDB

Nothing since you joined then boom, plenty today and most of it contrary to what most City fans think.

Uh, re-read my post. Messi is just mentioned to prove a completely unrelated point.
