Kevin De Bruyne 2016/17

So you're comparing De Bryune to Messi? Give your head a wobble mate. One is an all time great the other is a very good PL and Bundesliga player who has yet to prove he can do it at the highest level. Hopefully he will but on the evidence of both matches against Madrid he's a long way off.
Uh... both made the UEFA list for Player of the Year Candidates.

KDB need not "prove he can do it at the highest level" - he clearly can. He's world class.

Is KDB as good as Messi - not even close over a career and never will be. But in one season... especially with Messi sharing goal scoring with 2 other great players.... yeah, I could easily see KDB having a better season than Messi in the near future.

Of the players in our squad capable of winning the Balon D'or - it's only Kun and KDB that have any chance. And under Pep, yeah, I expect that they'll have a chance.

So anyone asking if he can start for us or not... is clearly out of their fucking mind.

So would you currently put him in a World XI? I wouldn't.

Hopefully he will improve under Pep but he has to if he wants to reach that level. Let's be absolutely honest here there's not one PL player who would make a World XI.

As for UEFA Player of the Year Candidates, so what? Kun has never made the PFA PL team in his 5 years here. The Football Writers rate Vardy as POTY. It doesn't make them right.

Was shocked when I saw this thread pop up again!

Yes, he can't defend. But, he shouldn't be played as a winger to accommodate Yaya either. He'll walk into our starting XI any day of the week.

Jesus Christ, by the way some people react to criticism you would think he's a club legend who's been with us for 5 years or so. He didn't show up to the big games (remember the United game?), that's a fact. But he's been with us for a little less than one season. Next season we will see if he should be up there with the all-time greats.

Front four without thinking too deeply about it: Messi, Ronaldo, Bale and Iniesta all spring to mind.

And as sacrilegious as it sounds, Ozil as well. And Neymar. Thomas Muller ... so not yet world-class, but he will be one day, particularly if he curbs his bad habit of passing carelessly.

Even though Iniesta has dropped off a bit, I think he is still the best attacking midfielder in the world. It's just that all the limelights were focused on MSN.

So if we sign Messi next year, we shouldn't count him as best player in our squad. After all, he's only been with us 1 year.
