Not sure about in England, but in Northern Ireland it was 2.30 just after the clocks changed and then 2.15 during November December January and then back to 2.30 before the clocks changed again, though as it gets darker in England (especially the south) earlier, I would imagine it would have been earlier.
I used to enjoy getting back to my dads car on the way back from an away game and being able to listen to the commentary from a division 1 game (no premier league and championship nonsense back then, just Divisions 1 - 4).
As to who gains the advantage in the variable kick-off times, surely that depends on how the team around you has done, Liverpool lose today and the sense of belief amongst our fans will rocket before our kick-off, liverpool win and it will be more subdued imho.
