I'm just wondering, if Kolarov is so poor defensively, why have we had the best defence in the league since he signed? Statistically we are very good at the back. Yes sometimes he gets isolated as we rarely play anyone in front of him, and unless Barry is playing non of the players deployed to hold the midfield drift left naturally. So more often than most he is against 2 men. He struggles for pace against 2 men, but is rarely beaten one on one. Clichy is faster, and better defensively but his cross completion is as bad as Bridge's. Kolarov also had Savic along side him tonight, no cover and an awful player inside of you, that must be hard work. As did Clichy Sunday, and where did the cross come from for the Swansea goal? Kolarov has desire and character and a willingness that is absent in many of our players when the going gets tuff. Without him last night, the game would have remained dead. Zabaleta is a darling on here and he lets crosses go in the box more than Kolarov. In the FA Cup Semi we should have been 2 down in the first 15 minutes from Zabaleta getting skinned.
Kolarov has desire, ability and cares and puts in very dangerous crosses and his ability to create danger forces a team so far back that goals are inevitable.
As one poster said, Utd have done it for years, it doesn't have to be a cross and header that scores, the ball in the box combined with numbers in the box causes mayhem.
I though AK was very good last night, and it is of no coincidence that their right mid and right back both needed treatment(a rest) as they could not keep up with him.
All this with him only getting the ball sparingly, as De Jong seemed incapable of passing forwards untill it was 2-2.
