Kolarov played out of his skin tonight

I'm just wondering, if Kolarov is so poor defensively, why have we had the best defence in the league since he signed? Statistically we are very good at the back. Yes sometimes he gets isolated as we rarely play anyone in front of him, and unless Barry is playing non of the players deployed to hold the midfield drift left naturally. So more often than most he is against 2 men. He struggles for pace against 2 men, but is rarely beaten one on one. Clichy is faster, and better defensively but his cross completion is as bad as Bridge's. Kolarov also had Savic along side him tonight, no cover and an awful player inside of you, that must be hard work. As did Clichy Sunday, and where did the cross come from for the Swansea goal? Kolarov has desire and character and a willingness that is absent in many of our players when the going gets tuff. Without him last night, the game would have remained dead. Zabaleta is a darling on here and he lets crosses go in the box more than Kolarov. In the FA Cup Semi we should have been 2 down in the first 15 minutes from Zabaleta getting skinned.
Kolarov has desire, ability and cares and puts in very dangerous crosses and his ability to create danger forces a team so far back that goals are inevitable.
As one poster said, Utd have done it for years, it doesn't have to be a cross and header that scores, the ball in the box combined with numbers in the box causes mayhem.
I though AK was very good last night, and it is of no coincidence that their right mid and right back both needed treatment(a rest) as they could not keep up with him.
All this with him only getting the ball sparingly, as De Jong seemed incapable of passing forwards untill it was 2-2.

Kolarov the scapegoat!

Right so first half he wasn't great - neither was any City player for that matter. Looking back I think he was unlucky with the second goal, in that he won the ball and there was no one reacting to the ball whilst we has collapsed on the floor - that said I think he could have headed it out of play and the goal would have been prevented. So he can take some blame but not all.

In the second half he ran his bollocks into the ground. A lot of times I noticed that he was making a run forward only for someone in the midfield to lose the ball and that meant he had to race back which he wasn't always able to do. It's got to be frustrating for a player to make a 50-60 yard run only for the ball to be cut out..

Regarding the crossing: where are these shit crosses that everyone has counted come from? He ballooned one or two in the first half and that was it - in the second half nearly every one of his crosses were a threat.

I saw someone mention how his corners are really good. I agree, and I don't know why he doesn't just take every corner.

Ultimately he has defensive problems we all know that, but they are not as bad as people make out, in the second half I think he defended very well, considering he was booked early that is to his credit - but he will always give you that quality threat, and lastly heart. He along with Balotelli really wanted to win last night.

I can think of 3 reasons why we have the best defensive record since he signed.

Hart Kompany and Lescott. Fuck all to do with Kolorov. For someone who is supposed to have a gem of a left foot he doesn't have that many assists and hasn't scored that many goals.

As for your comment about their right mid and right back needing treatment (rest) cos they couldn't keep up with him, that's just fucking laughable. They tore him apart in the first half and the reason why they needed the "rest" as you put it is because they were time wasting.

I really really don't get what game you were watching last night cos it was obviously not the same one as me.

Unbelieveable

What game were you watching?
Other than Aguero, Kolarov was by far the best player on the pitch the second half. He was excellent down that left wing causing problems for them every time he got the ball.
His best game in a City shirt.

4 goals and 6 assists isn't too shabby for a full back IMO. For comparison Richards has 1 goal and 7 assists, Clichy 0 goals and 1 assist.

His best game in a City shirt by a country mile was the FA cup semi vs the rags

Clearly not the same game as you, mate!

Kolarov was abysmal. But hey, he can cross a ball under no pressure.

Might want to take a look though at his tackling, lack of awareness, his bookings, distinct lack of pace and five out of every six crosses which hit the first defender.

This guy cost £17m by the way. That's £10 MILLION better than Clichy!

He was absolutely shocking first half !
Can't defend to save his life, massively at fault for the 2nd goal

But Richards doesn't take any corners or direct free kicks neither does Clichy and neither of them came with the label of a dead ball specialist.

Oh and as Tolmie says, this prick cost us £17m, god knows how many goals and points in comparison to Richards and Clichy who cost us fuck in the scheme of things.

How about this - Kolorov is the worst left back I've ever seen to grace a city shirt!
