Kolo Shout Out

Not knocking the good stuff said on here about Kolo or the 'shout out', but if Kompany was on the same form as last year, Micah was fit, and if whatever weird shit that's going on between bobby and Lescott was not happening I doubt we would ever see him TBH.

If we let both Kolo and Lescott go in the Summer it leaves us with;

Vinny - Nastasic - Rekik - Richards.

Firing on all fronts that is at least one short and seeing as we completely messed up the summer Transfer window due to the confusion created by the FFP rules and I cant think of anyone off hand who is both affordable or open to a move we should really keep either Kolo or Lescott.

Have a good look at the Champions League Matches - their really isn't one fantastic world class defender in the entire competition.

As it stands right now I rate Vinny as one of the best 3 or 4 centre backs in the World. In 45 years of watching Football I dont rate Vinny in the top fifty defenders that I have ever seen. That is how low the standard is.
Sorry but three recognized CB's and one RB very capable of playing there is more than enough. Never mind having Garcia and Rodwell being able to play there, hell even Yaya played there in a CL final!

There was no confusion at all, we couldn't get our number one targets so went elsewhere. Nothing confusing about it.
As for you can't think of anyone? I didn't know you knew all of the defenders in Europe personally. Or are you going off the fact there is nobody in the papers saying I want to leave?

There are no world class defenders in the CL?!?!?! the only one not there is Kompany.

As for your last statement. Just lol.

defo needs a year extension, good to rely on and been playing very well..

comes to the fans at start of game to clap, nice touch.

I like Kolo and he's playing well lately, but I imagine he's got a big fat contract that we're looking to get rid of too. He was signed in a different time for the club. I reckon we'll let him go and try and pick up someone younger and cheaper.

I've always rated Kolo, he had a bit of a dip in form but this season he's been really solid when we needed him.

Agreed - he was good, but why does it take a shake up to make some pro players perform to their utmost ability?

My MOTM was nasty - provided toure with the platform to be confident - this boy can play!

ha ha ha - grumpy old man I guess...................For the record, players I rate who always give enough to satisfy me: Zabaleta, Milner, Nasty, Kompany, Tevez, Aguero. IF all of them gave as much as these then we'd be top of the League....................problem is, they don't, so I get grumpy.

I don't get all the speculation on this and other threads about our centre halfs.

I don't think any of them are poor and I think they would all walk into most teams in the premership. Why get rid ?

The spacing of the ages is fantastic (almost deliberate?) Nasty 19 Vinny 26 Lescott 30 Kolo 32. I don't believe Lescott wants to leave, I think they all know they will get game time and that they are happy to be here. I would think that Kolo should get an extra year and that next year we bring in a 22/23 year old. (look at the gap at the swamp 2 x 32/33 and 2 x 22/23 with just evans in between)

All the shit from the press earlier in the season (and on here) that the defece is no good but it's still the best in the league and now we have four centre halves used to playing with each other (and two full backs able to play in a three)
- why break it up ?

Christ even the midfield is showing signs of promise with variations.

Anyway, agree entirely with the op - awesome judgement yesterday - particularly on their breakaway.

Kolo is a solid, hardworking, honest centre half who gives his all every time. The problem is his salary, his personal ambitions (to play every week) and length of contract.
Was excellent today with nasty

Worth a year extension for me.

He was superb today and the way he handled that 2-1 situation was absolutely brilliant defending. Good to see the other defenders embrace him during the celebrations for the first goal, it was vital looking back.

He's a great squad player and I'd be happy for him to stay. He has a great understanding with Nastasic too,

Well played Kolo!

There's been plenty of mention about the "2 against 1" race, that he dealt with superbly. I noticed how Shearer, on MotD 2(so clearly not a defender), reckoned that if (Hazard?) had gone further up the pitch, that Kolo would have gone with him, which was not the case.

Kolo had glanced over to see Ramires going into the empty space and left the original marker to close that off. So no matter what, Kolo was already reacting to that. Excellent decision making and a lesser defender's experience (I will mention Kompany as he's done it before) would have them drawn to the ball player, leaving the gap open for a potential game changing goal.

Nah, we're an ambitious team and we need that many centre backs I feel. If they're truly ambitious they can fight for a place in a top team. The alternative being a starter in a team that doesn't win anything.

I agree we need at least four top centre-halves.

The problems that having less could creat were highlighted while Kolo was away on ACoN duty and VK and Nasty were injured.

We had to play Garcia at the back. Now while Javi acquitted himself well, it was not the same as having a recognised centre-back alongside JoLo.

It was the same with the forwards. After Balo had been sold, and Carlos was granted compassionate leave, we were left with only Kun and Edin, both of whom started the game, leaving us with no alternative, should RM have wanted to change things round.

So, four centre-backs - and four forwards - is the minimum we should have, IMHO.
