Arsenal's eight-year servant Kolo Toure could have been in line for a severance payment should he have completed the two remaining years of his Gunners contract, and the Ivorian would have also been awarded a testimonial to honour his service. However, that package has yet to be agreed, and Sky Sports News believe this has the potential to scupper any switch to Manchester City.

The 28-year-old is currently in Manchester, where he had a medical check earlier with personal terms already allegedly agreed, and the protracted saga was expected to reach an imminent conclusion.

The signature of Toure, should the reported issue of severance pay be remedied, is largely expected to spark a back-line overhaul that could see City splash out on a total of £100 million worth of defensive talent.

Respected British broadsheet The Times, recently noted that the Toure coup would be the first in the nine-figure "makeover", as the club continue to pursue Everton's versatile centre-back Joleon Lescott.

John Terry has also been relentlessly targeted, and indeed appears to be even more of a problematic candidate for recruitment, as the Chelsea and England leader has reaffirmed his allegiance to the Blues.

Versatile Portuguese international Miguel Veloso, and West Ham United stopper Matthew Upson, have also been linked with a move to Eastlands.

Ian Wright and co on Talk Sport now talking about Arsenal and them selling Toure. They are absolutely slaughtering Wenger saying it’s crazy for them to sell 2 quality proven players to their main opposition in the league without strengthening first.

Basically Wrighty said they were barely good enough for the top 4 last season; now much weaker "whilst city we are getting much stronger by the day".

They think it’s very bad. Also the Dutch lad they have brought in saying he is unproven been around for a few years in the DUtch league, none of the top clubs have thought he was worth a punt.

Bottom line they think if we get Lescott with Toure - much better than any pairing Arsenal currently has in the centre plus overall Bridge and Richards on form better than their full backs.

Bottom line if they don’t spend most of the money wisely on proven quality and or they get a few injuries in key areas they are fucked for 4th spot.

Fucking hate SSN, how is it a protracted saga? It only really kicked off on Monday we when returned from SA! Bloody morons...

Same as happened with Adabayor.

Still listening they are rattled as fuck about Toure going get it on can listen through the website. Wright currently slagging off Gallas and the other defensive options. Saying they only basically have one centre half good enough at the moment plus this Dutch guy thats unproven and unknown. Even if hes good - they have no decent cover.

Testimonial year next season. That is why he wants it, and thats when his contract runs out. He will sign though, just wants the bonus.

makes me laugh how players want their loyalty bonus when they are leaving for a higher paid job before the end of their contract.

Just spoke to Stu (sdm) he said he was the 1st one to shake Toure's hand at the ground. Said they didn't go in the main entrance but round a side bit. Kia Joorabchin was with Toure as well

Funny as fuck they have got Arsneal fans on the phone in very rattled indeed !

"Selling your best players is odd, selling them to your main rivals is very very odd"

OMG your knowledge is shocking, how on earth you can slate me is way beyond me. Their full backs, Sagna and Clichy are a million miles better than Richards and Bridge, Bridge has looked top in the friendlies but no way is he better than Clichy. Sagna is world class, and if Richards ever reaches his level I will be a very happy man.

Vermaelen is Belgian, not Dutch. Vermaelen is the same age as what Evra and Vidic were when they came to England, age means nothing as a defender, and just because he's young it does not mean he won't turn out to be a class defender.

Vermaelen is actually Belgian, not Dutch.
