Kolo Toure suspended (MERGED)

I agree with this. Im sorry to upset people, but the guy is being called drug cheat, and no one from City have even come out and fought his corner.
Can you not comprehend how this would do more harm than good? He has failed a doping test and it would appear he accepts he is 100% guilty and will receive a ban. Ignorance is not a defence in these cases so there is little sense in playing the 'poor-little-me victim card' at this point as it will only serve to antagonise those responsible for making the ultimate decision. I appreciate that it's Arsenal's default setting, but squealing like little bitches in the media about how unfair everything is won't help Kolo one bit at this juncture. What will help is the best defence team that money can by and strategically targeted behind-the-scenes lobbying, and you can be sure that Kolo will be receiving both of these courtesy of Manchester City Football Club.

Fair enough but non performance enhancing non recreational drugs should warrent a small time in the stands especially for a first time offence.

My fear is that he will cop as much as 9 months which will finish his career at City and most likely the premier league.

Best case scenario a negative b sample worst case scenario a ban for 9 months but hopefully no more than 4 weeks for negligence.
My understanding of the four-week ban in Scotland was that the pill taken by the player had been contaminated and he was able to prove this. i.e. it contained something the manufacturers hadn't declared. Kolo's situation appears to be more in line with Paddy Kenny's; neither knowingly and purposely took a prohibited substance but if they'd bothered to have checked with their club doctors they would have been told to steer clear.

Based purely off the very few snippets of information that have come out, I'd say it will be nearer the 9-month scale than the 4-week scale.

He has taken a performance enhancing drug. He will get a ban and it's length will depend on our behind the scenes work.

Wenger and Arry by going public are not helping Toure - the advice given by the PFA is to say nothing - not even denial. Wenger is covering himself in glory as the listening caring father of football. Arry is just being Arry in the run in to the end of another tight season where anything he says (even if he is asked !!) is part of the game. Grabbing the opportunity.

Lets not be Naiive enough to pretend until we know (if ever) what really happened and who phoned who and said what.

The fact that this substance is banned suggests that someone somewhere does indeed view it as perfomance enhancing.

They'd better check rooney for viagra then.

I love all the couch lawyers and doctors in this thread. Now everyone is a professional on medicine and the laws regarding banned substances.

It is not banned because it is considered performance enhancing, it is banned because in LARGE doses it can mask performance enhancing drugs. This is why a second test and the confession actually work in his favour as all need to do is test the diet pills his wife has. Anything longer than a month will be harsh. Lets not get carried away here and just wait for them to reveal the results and decisions.

You can be sure that Arry would have made a statement supporting his player if he had been at Tottenham. The silence of City management implies that they thought he was probably guilty. That may change when all of the facts are known but the damage to his reputation has already been done. Poor show.

Glad to see Lionhearts contribution is remaining consistent..............

Want to put money on it? It's a performance enhancer. He will get 9 months.
