Which is exactly why it effects strength, damage it and you don't have the cushion to push through the knee with full force and have to use your calves to compensate.Think you're confusing the function of the meniscus. It isn't a ligament, it's cartilage so doesn't affect strength or stability. The meniscus is there to distribute weight and load throughout the knee to act as cushioning, whilst reducing friction between the bones in your knee
