Labour / Tory Party meltdown Referendum fallout

How come if there is no need to panic is Sajid Javid is holding a meeting with business leaders tomorrow to tell them there is no need to panic?
Invisible Gideon is going to make an announcement before the markets open tomorrow - probably should have done it tonight before markets opened in the far east tbh as the pound is sliding already
Dave looked like a man with a dodgy tummy and a bad attack of wind at the Armed Forces Day yesterday - uncomfortable
Boris getting barracked in the street on his return home tonight - and not from his Mrs for a change
Corbyn looking like his cabinet will be him and McDonnell by morning - and even Corbyn isn't sure he will be staying

is meltdown even a big enough word to describe this?

You're right. The impression being given is that there's no government at the moment. This needs sorting fast with some firm leadership or Fridays sell off will look like a minor fluctuation. I can't remember anything like it.
 
The Tory leadership election process needs to commence immediately.

Labour, being in Opposition, are irrelevant right now: they can play silly buggers among themselves all Summer if they so desire.

The Tories don't have that luxury. Cameron is naive to think he has that option.
 
Osborne has been an utter disgrace. He should have been everywhere since Friday, on every TV channel, in every newspaper, talking to key people, etc in order to calm the markets. Instead, no one's seen sight or sound of him. He's either had some sort of breakdown or he's being completely and utterly cynical. If the latter is the case then he should resign with immediate effect. In fact, he should be sacked for this.

I think he's been secretly doing a deal with Boris and Merkel. Boris becomes PM, Osborne stays as Chancellor and the UK stays in the EU. Everyone's a winner.

How to break it to the electorate though? Oh and don't tell Theresa May or Nigel Farage ffs.

He should be in front of the cameras and talking to key people, rather than leaving it to Sajid Javid or making back-room deals.

He should but there are already stories surfacing that he might be backing Boris. Boris meanwhile is starting to sound neutral to Brexit. Deals are definitely being struck while Rome burns so to speak.

Jesus H Christ. The thought of seeing the back of Osborne is one of the reasons I voted Leave. But he's slimy enough to do that I guess. Boris knows and has always known that a full Brexit is virtually impossible, certainly within the 2-year timescale imposed under Article 50. We'll drop into the EEA, with a few bells and whistles, and everyone'll be happy.

My thoughts exactly , the Norwegian option with guarantees of not joining a European army or police force ,fudged and vague limits on immigration now and future guarantees that none of the countries which werent going to join the EU anytime soon wouldnt be part of the free movement of labour (ie Turkey).
We get guarantees we can do our own trade deals if we want , but the majority of eu trade deals will be better than the ones we get alone anyway .
Britain becomes a " European partner " or some such title which strangely makes us sound important but insignificant at the same time .
We probably pay more into the EU than we did before and have far less influence , but because we have some sort of illusion of sovereignty everybodies happy

You've got on the wrong bus! Gideon's statement has done what's best for the country to retain as much investor / business confidence as possible.

It would've been pretty irresponsible in the current climate to have said anything else. He was hardly going to say "we are FUCKED!".

It just has in the very short term. FTSE opening down slightly. Tories will need a robust plan going forward to retain market confidence though!

Maybe he should have used the same sort of language before the vote and reassure the world hat regardless of how the vote went, we would be just fine and business would go on as usual, as it will.

November 2015 and Cameron was saying just that!

Politics of fear has not worked for them and the pair of them are as much responsible for the blip with their constant doing down of the country and the economy over the last few months, their predictions of financial Armageddon and them both going missing in action since last Thursday.

Disgraceful.
