Been a while since I saw a low budget film project done, so I thought I'd check out Mike Leigh's 1993 film "Naked", cos after all there's the excellent "Secrets & Lies"!
Film Four's attached, so I thought I'd give it a chance. David Thewlis is in it, so it should be decent.
Imagine my shock at hearing some of the worst attempt at a Manc accent I've ever heard! Weak plot, weaker sub plot (debatable to consider there being one!), extremely shockingly poor acting and highly disjointed subject matter as well as badly attempted shock value, which was actually unnecessarily and gratuitously explored.
I'm not going to bother offering an actual review, it's so bad.
What I will say, in its favour, is some of the off kilter, and quite frankly, interesting dialogue that goes on between the awful main protagonist and his 'random' meetings. Generally speaking, those characters are ill conceived and I'll be fooked if I know how Leigh got an award at Cannes, for this general sh*te!
If you can find it and want something a little different, be my guest, but I was shaking my head throughout!!
