Last Film You Saw

Unstoppable - Born with one leg, Anthony Robles defies expectations to become a champion wrestler in college, competing against the very school that rejected him - pretty good true story.

Is that really John Wayne?…why would he want to that?

It is indeed Marion Morrison. But it's not audio or dialogue that was used in star wars. Someone edited it in as a joke.

Marion does voice that character but not in any human language.

It's a buzzing sound that was taken from stock archive sound effects, they didn't realise at the time it was Marion's voice.

Real clip here.

Get Away (2024)
Nick Frost and his family go on holiday to a nice quiet Swedish island. Shenanigans ensue.
Not what I expected.
7/10 (maybe, no idea how to judge it).
I watched this a few days ago and completely forgot until I read your post.
I'd say it is a mildly amusing in places and an instantly forgettable film.
I remember after watching it apologising to the Mrs as I'd chosen it to watch it.
I'm a huge fan of nick frost and having seen that he had written it and was starring in it, it was a no brainer to watch, to say I was left disappointed is an understatement.

I'd agree with that. Doubt I'll watch it again.

Yesterday I watched The Swimmers on Netflix. Very good and thought provoking.
Then I watched the original True Grit. Must be 40 years since I last seen it. You forget how good John Wayne was at these roles. Didn't realise either that he was in the 1st Star Wars film.
Love both versions of True Grit.
But if I had to choose I'd go for the Wayne one.

Just watched his final film The Shootist.
Plays a man dying of cancer, he was dying of cancer at the time.

A Complete Unknown

Pretty good. Hopefully it'll help introduce the music of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger to many more people.

Watched it this afternoon. Thought it was brilliant. Had been cynical about Timothee Chalamet, thought he might have been a bit lightweight, but he was outstanding. Even more impressive when I read that when the film was delayed during covid he taught himself to play the guitar as well.

Agree about hoping the film brings this music to a new generation. It also makes such a good point about the best songs not needing the 'bells and whistles' just a guitar and a voice. Dylan going electric is an interesting contradiction to that of course!

Watched Alien Romulus again after not being too keen the first time. Exactly the same issue as the first time, the human characters are all awful or boring as fuck. The Xenomorphs are obviously amazing, Andy the android is the best thing about the film. Like I said before, an Alien film made for a teenage audience.

Very good Canadian low budget sleeper film "The Silent Partner" 1978. It's a cat and mouse crime thriller starring Elliot Gould as a timid bank official and Christopher Plummer as a deranged psychotic gangster. Well worth a watch with several jarring violent scenes. You can catch/record it tonight on Talking Pictures TV (9.05) or it's repeated on Tuesday (9.10). Don't miss (8/10+)
