The poppy police appal me. Until a few years ago I always attended the cenotaph and always wore a poppy. I don't anymore as I am not being forced to wear one to prove I am some sort of patriot. The day has been hijacked by World War 2 fetishists, who aren't mourning the sacrifice of our fallen, they are celebrating winning a war.

My grandad was a desert rat, he never wore a poppy, I didn't really understand why, I do now.

As for winterval, its a myth that has been busted, It was a throwaway remark from a low level council employee in Birmingham which was seized upon by the Mail and made into an issue to cause division, but thats the Mail all over.

That’s no reason to not go to a cenotaph fella, the reasons are personal to yourself fuck anybody else.

Just what is needed another party run by a Public schoolboy (Harrow) attending Oxford Uni graduate.

Whats needed is a political party run by old Bob from the Dog and Duck vault who lived in a council house, left school at 14 to work on a factory production line making clothes pegs, had 9 kids and whose idea of a holiday was a trip to Platt Lane boating lake.

I concur, I do not wear a poppy until Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph, anyone that pulls me up can gladly turn up to the Cenotaph and see a proud chest full of medals.

I wasnt aware he had any interest in politics until the BBC invited him onto 'Question Time' where he appeared very tongue tied and unable to express himself properly despite his education and profession.
This country has long had strange people trying to get into politics as can be seen after watching a few results being declared on Election Night.
No need to lose any sleep over this new one.

He is being backed by serious Tory money, if he is successful he will push the Tories further rightwards, that is the mission of his donors, basically they are using him and he too fucking stupid to see it.

That does kind of skip over several hundred years of European colonial history.

Perhaps we can replace a tranche of history with the statement “something bad happened but it’s important not to pick sides or dwell on it”.

I don't think she's against teachers teaching that white people had certain privileges in this country once upon a time that other races did not enjoy (if that's relevant to the subject) but I think she's right to point out that the idea is extremely contested today, and teachers should not be reporting it as fact. Especially to working class white boys who are the opposite of privileged in comparison to other races at an academic level.
