Laurence Fox launches political party

as if it was about that, as the equalities minister has eloquently explained. Vandalism is vandalism nonetheless. I'm glad she is truly reflective and representative of a progressive position unlike the racist ideological bigotry that she rightly condemned and has no place on this forum, or in our society.

You mean slavery and oppression as represented by the Transatlantic Slave Trade is bad? Is that the ‘racist ideological bigotry’ we are condemning now?

Bold take.

Are we instead planning to celebrate our achievements in the slave trade? Commemorative 50p coins perhaps? Stamps with stirring images of shackled people on them? Just for balance and to ensure sone white folk don‘t feel vilified. Bless them.

Why not? We are European. It forms part, indeed a substantial part of our nations history. We celebrate that history, we build monuments to the people who played a part in it, for good or bad, that legacy forms part of who we are today.
Because as per my previous reply by cherry picking selective parts of history and ignoring others, it promotes a sense of injustice and contributes to certain races & nations being demonized and vilified.

Probably all civilizations in history incorporated slavery at some point, but we no longer do. Times & societies change, so why continue the crusade against europeans and their involvement in slavery only?
Do we still vilify the Germans of today because of the Nazi concentration camps & genocide of WW2?
Or do we ignore it now, because us Brits were at it first with Lord Kitchener and the Boers, where the child mortality rates in the camps were 30-50%. I don't hear many South Africans asking for WW1 Kitchener recruiting posters to all be destroyed because of what he did to them in the past.

The equalities minister said all that needed to be said. If you oppose that, you stand with the BLM political movement and its ideology. What they preach is the racist, ideological bigotry.

The transatlantic slave trade is part of human history, part of the history of the overall slave trade and oppression against human beings by people of all colours and creeds, and should be reflected upon, taught and remembered in that context. Equally the discussion of privilege should accurately reflect the privilege of all backgrounds who have since prospered in the modern, western, progressive era.

Can see where you're coming from, but do you not see any potential issues or dangers, where an institution or company only allows it or favours it only for 'select' groups?

You only need to look at what happened at Evergreen State College in US back in 2017 and their backing of 'forced' segregation (or however you want to dress it up). There they introduced non-white dorms and common rooms, and reversed their traditional 'day of absence' so that white students weren't to be on campus for the day (and non-white students were patrolling the campus with baseball bats to enforce it). 3 years on the college still hasn't recovered, with en-rollment down 30%+ and still falling, causing faculty job losses and increased student fees etc.
What happened at that college was not the same, it was segregation and I have read a few studies on it because of this thread as I wanted to make sure I was in the correct place by endorsing the use of safe spaces. I believe them to be two totally different things after reading about it.

Just when you thought Kemi Badenoch couldn't upset the racialists any more. Some quotes from today:

‘Many of these books — and, in fact, some of the authors and proponents of critical race theory — actually want a segregated society.’

A Tory equalities agenda, she says, should be based on Martin Luther King’s ‘dream’ — that people should be judged ‘on the content of their character’ and not the colour of their skin. ‘Now, it’s all about the colour of your skin. That cannot be,’ she says emphatically. ‘You can’t pick and choose the rules depending on the colour of someone’s skin. That is what the racists do.’

'The repetition of the victimhood narrative is really poisonous for young people because they hear it and believe it.’

At least Kemi didnt go down the usual route of conflating critical race theory with cultural Marxism, which is commonplace in America, but they have had years of Macarthyism in their skulls.

She makes some very valid points, although I would maybe disagree that the founders of critical race theory set out to want a segregated society. I don't believe that was their aims, they wanted equality in law which is different from segregation or exclusivity. Peoples works are always open to interpretation though and I see it every day on here how people misinterpret Socialism. Maybe that does confirm that unconscious bias exists, although I wouldn't necessarily say it is all about unconscious bias, a lot of its about propagandising and influencing ones inate unconscious bias and cementing it as fact in your brain.

I thought this would make a worthy addition to this discussion. I have seen statements made in this video, made on BM.

The vid starts with Fox, but moves on. I'm afraid it's just over 30 mins, but if you have the time, have a look.

That is quite brilliant, I do rate his conclusion as it is something I have said for a long time. At the end of the day it always comes down to class. And he is right in that working class peoples of different races and ethnic background have far more in common with each other than they do the capitalist class. It is the Capitalist class who sow these divisions as a united working class is something they fear.
