A perennial discussion, that comes round again and again. For myself and – I suspect – many of my generation, it's the PL, every single time. I don't even have to think about it. However, the general razzamatazz of the CL has definitely taken its hold in the imaginations of many of the under-thirties, even — dare I say it? — the under-forties. It's a phenomenon I've often noticed in talking with younger football fans. Personally, I can't stand that bloody anthem. But people seem to like it.
Another thing. I personally don't give a toss whether we're a ‘global club’ or not. But our owners definitely do. And I don't pay the wage bills. So, I'm pretty sure, does Pep. That's how it is. Big clubs are part of global corporate capitalism nowadays. And winning the CL is unquestionably part of that process.
Hey, why choose? Let's have both, while we're about it.
