Leaving out Elano

Because that's the job of a manager in any profession.
No it aint if he cant do it off his own back a manager has no hope, players aint little kids

It is though. As a manager, you need to get the best out of those who work for you. You need to be able to adapt your style of leadership to individuals & I fear that this is what MH can't do.

I have the same concerns. It's the my way or the highway approach to man management.

I certainly don't think Elano is blameless, and I agree that he hasn't been firing on all cylinders since last Christmas.

But he has still been extremely useful for us in that time (those stats surprised me a bit, and show just how significant he was to a team doing so much better than we currently are),. He's also been a whole lot better than others that seem to escape criticism or "get rid" talk. He spent a lot of time in the past 12 months playing as a deep lying midfielder, and I just don't think that we'll ever get the best of him in that role.

He strikes me as a petulant type, and one that needs to be mollycoddled a fair bit. But if the right manager found the buttons to press, I think we could have a player on our hands thats even better than what we saw in the early part of the season.

He probably is a managers worst nightmare, but the best managers can also see those types as a great opportunity.
Good post.

To get the best out of anyone they need to show willing themselves, he aint, hasnt even tried

Rightly or wrongly, Elano will never play for City again whilst Hughes is in charge, unless there's a major backing down from either party which I can't see. Same with Ben Haim.

i wanna hear more about this, someone PM me

When you lose away at WBA, I can understand why you question the selection, and the only obvious omission is Elano.

Suddenly, players who aren't in the team become twice the player they were in the last defeat.

Is there any City fan who watches City away from home, who hand on heart would have played him?

You need to be able to dominate possession to justify playing elano. We can do it at home, if we want. We can't away. I'd never play him away. He's had loads of opportunities

elano has been hit and miss since he was signed. He was the most subbed player in the Premiership last season, under Sven so why the argument that Hughes is not getting the best out of the player?

Garrido. Caicedo.

Yes

Is there a rule that says you can't you dominate possession away from home against the bottom team in the league?

elano has been hit and miss since he was signed. He was the most subbed player in the Premiership last season, under Sven so why the argument that Hughes is not getting the best out of the player?

Involved in 39% of our goals, and we finished 9th. Real hit and miss.

Hand on heart, after Santander I wouldn't have started him. Would've had him on the bench though ahead of U2's bassist.

How many games have we won away from home?

We've been useless away from home for 2 seasons now, and we don't control possession.

If Elano has the ball at his feet, and is around the opposition box, he's great. we just don't get him in those positions enough away from home. It was 50/50 the possession today.

You can talk about should have been, it's only WBA, but these teams have been taking the piss out of City at away games for years. We lost today, and at Bolton and at Wigan. the list is endless

Why? Midfield is non-existent. You need to control the game, and away from home we're not strong enough to do so.

I'll concede a little groun to you on Hughes. Away from home we should drop the tactic of 3 behind the front man. Too optimistic

I'll be a bit more balanced when the rest of this board is a bit more balanced

i.e. I'd criticise Hughes, if you were all wildly in favour of him

it just goes to show that hughes is clueless. leaving out elano because he has personnel issues with him is a clear sign of bad man management, it is bad for the team and at the end of the day its hughes' management that has got us into the bottom 3.

play elano and forget about your little feud with him hughes, your fucking up the club i love, and from what i can see a club you couldnt give a shit about.

did you see elano's tantrum in santander?
he's gone. and rightly so.
fergie has had issues with players and they've been bombed out, anyone questioning him?

I honestly think Elano should be played as a striker and given out last chance.

He is not and I repeat, NOT, a defensive mid-fucking-fielder.

Hughes you plank, read this.

From the manchester evening news.

Mark Hughes admits Elano was left out of Manchester City's defeat by West Brom due to his recent poor form.

The Brazilian schemer missed Sunday's Hawthorns setback, despite starting City's previous two games against Everton and Racing Santander.

However, while his compatriots Robinho and Jo sat out the match due to injury, Elano's recent displays cost him his place.

"Elano's performances levels have not been up to scratch, so I've left him at home," said City boss Hughes in The Sun.

The future of Elano has come in for speculation after he recently complained about his lack of first-team opportunities under Hughes this season.

Espanyol have claimed they are considering a loan deal for the 27-year-old, while Lazio have also been linked with a bid.

Yes but the other 7 donkeys you play each week are up to scratch aren't they.

Don't know if this quote has been mentioned...

"Elano's performances levels have not been up to scratch, so I've left him at home," Hughes told The Sun.

What about the rest of the fookers whose performances have not been up to scratch?

A good player doesn't become a bad player over night. Elano is a world class player who is working under a manager whome has issues with him and a number of others.

Elano has not performed for a while. The first half of last season was great. Since then he has been living on that reputation. I came away from the Everton game more frustrated with Elano then any other player. He did little or nothing with the ball and his tackling is non existent. Then again i would put him in the team above Vassell anytime. Yesterday would have been the perfect opportunity to play him further up the field, Behind the striker. Instead of this holding creative midfield position were he has been completely ineffective

I don't think anyone questions him because, unfortunately, he has had success before bowling the best players out of the team for petty reasons, NOT, 17th position in the league just before Christmas.
