Leaving the game early

If I'm in the garden I can hear the crowd......I'm that sad I was stood outside my house a few months ago listening to the penalty shoot-out against the rags kids. ;)
Moved from Broadys to Cleveleys 20 years ago, took a great effort to drive a couple of miles to Highbury in the weather. Fair play to you mate getting to Manchester.

As I posted earlier it's quite a nice drive unless its pissing down/snowing and Mrs Moon enjoys a few hours of peace & quiet while I'm out.

I did consider joining Blackpool OSC but as I'm in SS3 and stay to the end it takes forever to get out of the ground. Their coaches are always in motion as I get near them on the way to my car. I usually pass them on the way back.

Afraid at my age and state of health it's better to use my season ticket at Highbury and watch City on TV. Love it when I get to the odd game. Most home games and many aways in Maine Rd days

If you need a lift at any stage bud, as long as you can do 1.5 miles ew to the car you're welcome to a spot in my passengers seat.

Now this is where the lines get blurred with with how the club see the fans, what they want for the future and what being a football fan used to be about. If they see football as an entertainment where you're charged a premium price for the privilege, then why wouldn't they leave? If you paid £100 for a concert ticket, but the group who are usually great are absolutely crap and getting worse as the night progresses, do you wait to the end to give them a standing ovation or do you think, fuck this let's get off back to the hotel bar?

Of course most of us who've been a fan for years know you support a club because they're in your blood. You hope you'll be entertained and successful in the process but you also know and accept that isn't guaranteed. You'll usually stick around to the end out of loyalty and love for the club. I feel that's being watered down now so the same feeling isn't there. If the team are putting on a shit show on the pitch, suddenly the early bus, train, drink in the nearest bar or hotel looks more appealing than standing there freezing for fifteen minutes of a game that's already lost.

I'm just putting some reasons out there why people would leave early. Actually the thought that you'd spent a fortune travelling all the way to Portugal to witness a horror show might make people think they are more entitled to fuck off early. They've done their bit, hanging around for the final fifteen minutes at 4-1 down won't change anything. The players would probably think thank fuck everyone's gone we can get out of here sharpish instead of going through the motions of applauding fans applauding us for getting hammered.
Just a few thought. Again each to their own. Everybody has paid their money, they make their choices as is their right to do so.

I can see your reasoning but im coming from the perspective of people who would have loved to go to lisbon or any European away game but cant because they haven't enough points, aren't branch members or Barcelona fans. Those that get a ticket should feel privileged regardless of where they are on the points system as they're are so many who would gladly take their place.
Perhaps if a system was in place whereby regular early leavers were deducted points or prevented from applying for tickets until a much lower points threshold was reached we'd have a much fuller ground and a better atmosphere too

Football attendance ain't what it was and never will be again.

Once the day dawned that you had to think about what you said/chanted, that was the beginning of the change.

It used to be raw. Now it's sanitised. It used to be cheap, now it costs a king's ransom. It used to be dominated by young, working-class guys, now it's dominated by the comfortably orf and tourists.

Just as it is, for good or ill.

It will never happen so give it up. Once football was everything to people. It was cheap and affordable, the working man's game. No internet, very few other distractions and it used to be one game on match of the day, one game on a Sunday. You never knew which game was being televised, so if you didn't turn up on the day you missed it if your game wasn't on. No highlights of yours or other games to watch afterwards. The only live games were internationals and the fa cup final. Now for some people football is still the main thing in their lives, for many others it's just one thing of many. People lead faster and busier lives. They pay their money, lots of it and if they want to bugger off ten minutes early or more it's their prerogative.
