"Lee Mason. Oh Dear"

For me it is not the big decisions that matter as much as the ongoing decisions/ none decisions. Dzeko could not challenge for the ball without mason blowing up, then VK gets studs raked down his calf and a push and he let's it go. We were pulled up for every 50/50 thought the game. They got away with loads. This has started to happen a lot to us. Means we cannot play our pressing game nor can we get any momentum in our passing game. Job done. Refs can play fair on the big decisions ( the penalty) so as not to draw too much attention. Note, he did not book the hull player for diving, or send off a hull player after the Silva tackle.

Make that three games. Anthony Taylor was awful in the Wigan game too.
I don't get it. Why on earth can Anthony Taylor from Wythenshawe ref a Manchester team. He has to have some bias one way or the other. Clearly not in our favour. It's nonsense to suggest he has a preference for a non league team and no leaning towards red or blue. FFS

because he`s one of 3,000 people world wide thats supports Altrincham and although his family are united season ticket holder he himself isnt.

Interesting that, as Mike Riley said that Lee Mason wasn't allowed to ref Bolton as some of his family are season ticket holders there.

Anyone notice the hull player celebrating clenched fist in the air cos he'd got komps sent off?
Yes I did and it pissed me off

I cant honestly remember the last time we played a game and committed less fouls than the opposition. The Barcelona stats clearly showed the officials taking the piss, what was it over 2 legs, 52 fouls to 18 but Arsenal and Chelsea fans have warned us about what its like to play Barcelona.
In some games we have up to 70% of the ball so how we concede more free kicks is baffling but a lot of it is down to what people say, we seem to get soft bookings when you see far worse fouls on the same day go unpunished and we seem to have free kicks given against us so easily for nothing yet the same sort of incident if in our favour does not seem to be given. You seem to have to kill one of our players to get a yellow card these days.
Look at the Cup final and the tackle, again on Silva, that went unpunished to add to the list. For me it all started away at Newcastle and how they did not have 2 sent off in the 2nd half is still baffling.

I love how we behave on and off the pitch but as we do not crowd the referee like most teams and get in the refs face constantly, are we seen by referees as an easy touch, especially in away games when they bow to the pressure of the home teams support and award a soft free kick against us because they know there will be no moaning from us so rather than then welcoming the fact we make their jobs easier through behaving in a sporting fashion, they see this as a cop out for themselves to make their life on the day easier and blow up against us.

As far as Mason goes, I am surprised he is allowed to referee us. Not only a truly appalling referee, he has history. I remember him being pulled at short notice before the home game v WBA when we won the title, a few weeks after he gifted Utd the points v QPR with the pathetic dive from Young being awarded with a penalty and red card. Something did not feel right then and still doesn't with him. He could not pull that red quick enough and looked smug as he did so, like he was enjoying it.

Anthony Taylor is a Sunderland fan.

Nobody has answered my question about why he did not give them two penalties. If I was a referee and it was v United they would sure have been penalties.

Is there ever a game where we win more fouls than we concede? 14-9 against us again today. Every week seems to be the same, no such thing as a 50/50.

Even against STOKE at HOME (which going by football lore is supposed to give that extra advantage) we were given more fouls against than for despite 74% possession.

I would like to know how many free kicks have been awarded for/against us this season, because as said above, we always seem to get the shitty end of the stick, despite usually having most possession. It would be good to compare against our main rivals too.

I had to do a course at work recently on 'unconscious bias', I think some of the refs need it too!

Even more odd that Mike Jones is allowed to referee Liverpool when his family - including his son are Liverpool season ticket holders.

Because he isnt corrupt and he doesnt have it in for City as many are insinuating. He is just an awful and thoroughly incompetent official who is several fathoms above his level.

Spotting the Boyd dive was excellent. But then he almost immediately undone his good work by not pointing to the spot for the Ferdy shove on the same player. The latter was a pen all day long.

Sometimes I think it's about how teams are perceived. Teams like Stoke, Sunderland, Hull and other teams that are fighting relegation are perceived as being generally more physical than passing teams like City and Arsenal, so in some ways referees are pre-conditioned as to how they are going to play before the match starts. Even teams like Chelsea, Everton and Man U are looked upon differently than us. It's not right, because standards should be the same throughout, albeit we know that will never happen and in some ways it's what makes the game so watchable.

From the players perspective I think we've got to be very careful in everything we do on the pitch and how we react to decisions that are made during games. Forget the games against Barcelona, they're one offs and Barca are the masters in feigning fouls, it's naivety and poor discipline that could come back and bite us on the arse in the Premiership. Losing Kompany against Fulham isn't ideal but should be manageable, losing him against Man U would be serious. Our defenders need to learn to stay on their feet better and not go to ground so quickly. Yes, Kompany was fouled, but then he gave Mason the opportunity to red card him and, guess what, he did. Sometimes, like MDM against Messi, accept you've been beaten, trust to luck and hope Hart can save it. Better to be one down with eleven men on the pitch than one down with ten.

Same with Yaya who, on occasions, comes across as petulant when decisions go against him. Imagine the impact if we lost him for the game against Arsenal because he'd hurled the ball down in temper and got a second yellow following his first, for kicking the ball away. Sometimes it's not easy to think straight in the heat of the game, but that little extra professionalism might earn us a point or two more over the season, and that point could win us the league.
