Who should we sign at left back?

Cancelo and walker are our starting fullbacks and both will remain so next season, zinchenko is a very capable option at left back, ake is the most comfortable of our 4 centre backs out wide at left back, that's enough options there. Pep is unlikely to rotate walker much, he's simply too vital to stopping the counter to be doing that regularly so then for most games and certainly the big ones, we've got 3 players, potentially 4 looking for games in one position. It's one too many players to keep happy. We will end next season with at least 2 defenders looking to leave from lack of gametime if we sign a left back. Our defensive unit is the closest we can get to being perfectly balanced right now, an extra body to share the games with will tip us over the edge. We should be going for a young right back who's willing to learn his trade for a season or two before featuring regularly.

We do need a traditional left back but we don’t need to break the bank for one . I would say £25 million buys us a good left back . Now a central defensive is another story

Not if we're not moving somebody on we don't. Traditional or not, we have two players in the squad whose best position is left back and we have Ake who is more than just a capable option there too. There a big imbalance there if we bring in another.

Cancelo is at his prime but he is 27. Most full backs start to decline after 30 years old. Walker is an exception but we cannot bet on the luck each time.

City needs to look for a potential candidate who can grow into a world class left back in 2-3 years time. Good LBs are rare these days. Buying a world class one is way too expensive and almost impossible. That candidate was Mendy but well he has transferred to Prison FC. Although I love Zinny and Ake, they will never grow into a world class left back. World class means top 10.

The plan is to buy a left back and give him some game time next season. If the new LB settles in well and shows enough potential, the board will be likely to not renew Zinny's contract and sell him next summer. If the new LB does not settle well, sell him like Ferran Torres deal and look for other options while keeping Zinny for another season.

Agreed. We will play at least 60 matches again next season so Cancelo and Walker will rotate on the right a lot. I don't think Cancelo is good enough defensively on the left side and Zin, much as I love his attitude, is poor defensively. We really need a specialist left back who can get up and down the pitch (like Walker). We would not have shipped most of the goals against Real Madrid if we had a proper Left Back. The best sides always target the left side of our defence and we have to do something about it.
