You can look up the starting lineups of every game he played for Bayern and I pulled those straight from transfermarkt.de - they are lineups he put out.

I've watched every single Bayern Match as a Bayern supporter. They played more variants of a 3-5-2 than any other formation last year and when they did play 4 at that back, Alonso was the lone CDM with Kimmich providing relief when Alonso was on the bench. You used the word "often" to describe those prevalence of those formations when it isn't true. I don't think City have the personnel to play 3 at the back as often as Bayern did, however, I'd also have my doubts about Gundogan operating as a lone CDM if I were a city supporter. It would limit his ability to drive the ball forward significantly.
