Lescott [Merged]

Moyes keeps bleating to anyone who will listen that Lescott isn't or sale, that he's staying at Everton, that he's not going anywhere. City, despite these very public protestations, are continuing to show an interest in Lescott. We've made two bids, both of which were after Moyes stated Lescott wasn't available, and we've continued to state we're trying to bring the player in. Why? Why are City still pursuing a player Moyes states is going nowhere? Well, there can only really be two possible reasons:-

1 - We hope that by continuing to badger the player, by continuing to show an interest, we will convince Moyes it isn't really worth holding onto him and w'll get our man.

2 - We've been given the impression, behind closed doors, from someone high up at Everton, that our interest isn't completely unwanted. That there's room to negotiate and that, should we come to an agreement on a financial package, that Lescott is available.

Well, which of those two scenarios seems most likely? Are City really going to pursue a player when every single thing they're told is that it's a futile activity? We've spent 3 to 4 weeks on this now, wih our finances are we likely to waste a month on a player we've no realistic hope of getting? Of course not, we'd have moved on and got another player. So, that leads me to one conclusion, someone (maybe Kenwright, maybe not) within the Everton hierarchy is giving City the green light. Someone feels that we are able to reach an agreement. Maybe, eventually, this will prove not to be the case, maybe we won't in the end be willing to offer the required price, but should this deal fall flat it WON'T be because Everton never had any intetion of selling, anyone who has been duped into this belief (Moyes included) is being very naive.

This has got to be the most poisoned thread ever, hated this Lescott saga, really hope somebody at MCFC reads this and comes to the conclusion, stubborn scouse scroungers are going to sap far too many days in August never mind our patience and energy and it's time we seriously step up our search elsewhere.

Matty, the 1st sensible post i've read in the last 10 pages.
I'm an Evertonian but i think the deal is already done, he will be a City player by the end of next week.

Huges is suggesting that City will not spend big money like this again (in the Guardian). <a class="postlink" href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/aug/14/manchester-city-spending-over-mark-hughes" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009 ... ark-hughes</a>
That doesnt sound good particularly if we start to attract the better players in the future.

He wont need to, he has bought the core of the team now he will add one or two players a year. Once you have the basis of a good team you just pick up one or two who are better than what you have if possible.

i wouldn'ty expect us to be buying 6-7 players every window. as hughes said, its unsustainable. this window we were really trying to make an impact on the squad so we have spent nearly 100 million on players however next summer we may only need 2 top additions and could only spen £40 million. so i wouldn't say it was catastrophic.

I'm sure a maque signing every summer will suffice mate, along with the talented youngster we have on our books.
