Huges is suggesting that City will not spend big money like this again (in the Guardian). <a class="postlink" href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/aug/14/manchester-city-spending-over-mark-hughes" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009 ... ark-hughes</a>
That doesnt sound good particularly if we start to attract the better players in the future.

He wont need to, he has bought the core of the team now he will add one or two players a year. Once you have the basis of a good team you just pick up one or two who are better than what you have if possible.

Exactly mate, thats why it annoys me so much with the whole 'City are ruining football' nonesense. Like you said we've bought the core of a team and will improve the weaker areas over time, the way the top 4 have been doing for a years. But first we needed to get those foundations in place to be able to get anywhere near them.

Matty, the 1st sensible post i've read in the last 10 pages.
I'm an Evertonian but i think the deal is already done, he will be a City player by the end of next week.

Surely thats an oxymoron....

;)

After my gentle dig there Matty ;), I have actually copied and pasted your quote on a 606 article. Thought it summed up the situation perfectly.

:)

Why ? you didnt seriously want or expect to change around half the first team each window surely. In a team you need the grafters as well as the flair players and the superstars for it to work, 11 superstars guarantees nothing.

He's saying we won't be buying 7 or 8 players in a window again. Of course we won't.

As an aside, how often does he say "as a group"!?!?!?!? Almost as often as "in that respect" and "obviously".

conspiracy theory here, dunno if it's been mentioned before but I had one of them moment of clarity type brain waves after watching moyes' rant earlier; is he engineering his move away from everton in the not to distant future! can just read his exclusive interview in the sun or some other red top next season now 'aye well ,i never had much money te spend, and certain players where sold against my wishes, blah, blah,' Fuckin hypocrite moyes, worthy of the job

I am very glad Hughes is saying this wont happen every summer. I dont know of any successful side that moves out 15 or 16 players every summer and brings in 7 !

10 squad players have left the club permanently, 5 on season long loans. At least 2 more could well leave before the window closes (Benjani and Ben Haim) 8 Youngsters have been released.

6 players have been signed with one more likely to come.

This is in addition to all the players brought in last season, and 14 or 15 players being shipped out last summer. That sort of turnover in a team does not make sense.

Top sides add a maximum of 2 or 3 quality players a season that are better than what they have, that is hopefully what we will do. We needed this hit to push us into the top 6, this is a squad that was relegation fodder 3 seasons ago and had no proper money spent on it for years.
