If he does give up those opportunities to stay with Everton, then he is truly loyal, but I think he would look back and regret it when we start to really challenge.
Loyalty would be one. Dont forget though we are the only team that have broken into the top four recently - our first eleven is pretty good - we just havent got the depth of squad. I'd be suprised if we didnt finish above you next season IMHO. The season after when you've spent even more then maybe you'll be better but you cant honestly think its going to happen overnight?
Rather like the current Everton team-we had a group of players in the 80's/90's with a game-plan based on running till it dropped and grafting like every game was a cup final. It was like chucking battery acid on the eyes at times but extremely effective-so effective in fact that we finished in a league position that would've put us in Europe had your "illustrious" neighbours been able to behave themselves.
The point is that it can only last for so long-and is based on keeping a "core" group of players on the pitch.Like you,we didn't have the money to strengthen with real quality, teams slowly sussed the game plan and developed a way to play against us...the wheels fell off..
Fast forward to last season, and witness what happened at Goodison-you had a few injuries, our "flair" players clicked and we beat you quite easily.2-1 was extremely flattering to you.
Quality allied to application will always win out in the end.The fact is that our first 11 is vastly superior to yours now.
Where you may beat us is in your "team spirit" and togetherness...but if we ally that to what we already have I have no doubt we're going to finish higher than you in the forthcoming season.
