personally hope we leave him... moyes is a much more able manager with little money and if we gave him 18m he would buy 2-3 players of lescotts quality.

Most sensible post you've written so far .

well then why do you wanna keep him if moyes could get 3 players of the sam quailty with the money city give

I'm still debating the issue , but what I want will be irrelevant .

City will get Lescott and Kyle Naughton.

Do you think City are in for Naughton?

I'm led to believe inquiries have been made but I don't fully understand why

I wonder if this is more of something to do with a back up down the right hand side. I can't see Etuhu making it, Elano can go if a club comes in for him and Hughes does like playing SW-P in the middle from time to time.

No news is good news :o)

I presume by that you mean it looks like Lescott could be staying? Be careful what you wish for, because if Lescott stays against his wishes, you could be left with one unhappy player on your hands. Better for you to cash in if City come up with a good enough offer, keep some financial wolves from the door, and give your excellent manager the rest to strengthen the squad. Just my opinion mate.

I've not noticed anything about Joleon to suggest he is unhappy at Everton though .
It's a very good team to play for afterall .

This is the key to this transfer imo. IF (big if), we were to sign Eto'o, Tevez & Terry (just for the sake of argument), does Lescott stick or twist? Absolutely nothing wrong with your club, it's manager or it's supporters. However, Lescott may be tempted to join the 'project', not to mention doubling (at least) his wages. Would Everton be wise to stand in his way were this to happen? I suggest not. Just take the money as soon as possible to give Moyes as much chance as possible to plan for life without him, take his departure on the chin, and use the money to sign 3 quality players.

Lescott will have spoken to Jo of that I'm sure .
Money isn't his only consideration . He has a world cup to think about . He has Europe to think about too , and he also has to be aware of any competition for his place at City .

A bit like City last year you mean ?

Everton are not skint and will probably get a good few players into the squad this window , regardless of selling Lescott .

Yes a bit like City last year without the money and without the goals though. I have been a city fan long enough to know not to glat, all I'm saying is that Everton no longer have it easy for 5th place and I doubt you will even qualify for europe imo. Selling Lescott for the money we would pay would probably be better for Everton than keeping him. Lescott is good but he's only 12 million good, the fact your getting 18 million just because its City will only help you out.

Personally I would pull out of negotiations and go for Mexes at half the price.
Everton had no strikers las season , and scored 3 goals less than City , but conceded 13 less .
Scoring goals won't be a problem . Why is it that because City have money they expect other teams to play worse ?
Nobody said you would get worse, I said other teams would get better. I have no doubt we will be above you this season and Villa will have matured into that position too. Spuds are very good under twitchy and they are also spending lots of money. You may not be physically going backwards but you are certainly not going forwards.

It would suggest Micah is on his way, Zabaleta is more versatile which Hughes likes.

Great point!

I think we maybe getting carried away a bit here. We may have camel loads of cash, but it is a team game & as Manure found out in the 80's no matter how much cash you throw at a team it may not gel. If we drop 4 or 5 new players in the team, it could take a while to get going ....

I wouldn't think so .
Hughes can't take those risks as much as Moyes , and needs to know his back four will be in proven hands . Naughton is unproven , and would have a much better chance of a starting place at Everton .

Re: official move for Lescott today...

It's a good point, Dale. We could end up with a squad that have it within them to challenge for the title but not this first year and maybe not for a few seasons.

Re: official move for Lescott today...

If we get Tevez and Eto'o, both now looking very likely, then I believe we are one good centre back (toure, lescott, terry etc.) from having as good a chance as Arsenal for 4th. Everton are good, well organised team but they'll always have a small squad. I think they'll be the next best challenegers to the top 4 but with the best front three in the premiership we would most likely finish above Everton.

.

Seconded. But there is the off chance that even with us getting lescott they get through the next season with few injuries. Therefore we are possibly fucked. As they have a good team already.

Neither Spurs or City have European football , so can concentrate on the league .
Villa had a little burst last season , but so did Hull . A good team needs to be able to deal with a bad run , and neither Villa or Hull were experienced enough to deal with theirs .

Spurs worry everybody each season , but have a habit of not pulling their weight . I don't see any difference next season . They have an awful lot of catching up to do , and will do well to get in the top 6 if they sell anyone .

City have no right to anything , and though they may come out guns a blazing ( or maybe not ) they are a new venture , and could even go down if things don't gell .
You can toss a coin on how they will do next season .
