Delay over Lescott angers Moyes

Lescott has missed the past two games for Everton
Everton boss David Moyes has criticised Manchester City over the amount of time it is taking to seal a reported £24m deal for centre-back Joleon Lescott.

The defender, 26, is expected to have a medical on Monday after City came up with a bid which satisfied the Toffees.

"We shouldn't have been asked to wait this long for an amount we think was the correct value for him," he said.

"Madrid came in with the money (£80m for Cristiano Ronaldo) for Man United the week after the end of the season."

With little over a week until the transfer window closes on 1 September, Moyes added: "The time is against us (to find a replacement)."

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has confirmed his club are in talks with Everton about signing the England international.

After Saturday's 1-0 win over Wolves, Hughes said: "My understanding is that the clubs are speaking.

"I would suggest that is a positive sign, although whether or not anything is concluded only time will tell."

Despite previously adopting a hard-line stance about Lescott's future, Moyes now appears to be considering selling him, and left him out of Thursday's Europa League tie against Sigma Olomouc citing the defender's "poor" attitude.

Lescott played for Everton on the opening day of the Premier League season, when they were thrashed 6-1 by Arsenal at Goodison Park, but he did not feature in Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Burnley.

If the former Wolves player does leave, Moyes will be left with Joseph Yobo as his only fit recognised centre-back as Phil Jagielka remains a long-term absentee with a knee injury.

If Lescott joins City, it is likely to the club's summer spending past the £100m mark.

Asked if Lescott's potential arrival will be the final addition to his squad before the transfer window closes on 1 September, Hughes said: "Not necessarily."

From the OS!!! Chairman's exclusive video interview

We are delighted and proud to be able to announce that tomorrow lunchtime mcfc.co.uk will bring City fans an exclusive video interview with our chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak.

Having watched the win in Barcelona in midweek, Khaldoon flew into Manchester to spend time with the staff and see for himself the results of the owner’s summer expenditure on the infrastructure at the club.

During his hectic schedule he kindly took time out to talk to the supporters via mcfc.co.uk.

Blues followers will be able to see and hear his views on a wide range of topics including the transfer business conducted this summer, the future of the Academy, the accusations of buying success, the soul and heart of the club, fans forums, ‘that banner’ and the owner Sheikh Mansour.

The video exclusive will be available from around 12.30pm. Make sure you don’t miss it and tell your mates!

Fans Forums! *LOL* :-)

What a good time to return from a pissin wet west coast of Scotland - @last this torturous thread coming to its end, surely self combusting into a glorious pulp with DSOB and his jackin’ mates disappearing once and for all! Clingon’s arrival is pending, great news and how we’ve f*ked up Gollum’s lot at the same time, too smug to be true?

Moyes is absolutely spot on, we could have offered what they wanted in June and the deal would have been done in 5min time, but we have hustled them all the way to San José. It’s a dirty business, well done City.

Wasn't he saying he wasn't for sale at any price a few days ago??? Idiot....maybe if he had said weeks ago £24mil and he is yours this would have been sorted out!!!!

Haha yeah, you couldnt make it up! The fee is 18m rising to 20m, I see the press etc are adding the usual 4-5m on top.

Now I've heard it all. Where is his brain????????
