Lescott take a bow

What game were you watching? He was excellent for 90% of the game up against one of Europes best. Yes, one major mistake but at least not giving away a pen and a sending off.

1 - Foul in the box (lucky to get away with it)
2 - Cock up for the goal
3 - Pass straight to Pedro who is bearing down on goal, only fails because he overruns it.

I'm not hounding the guy, but seriously, the abuse Demicheles has had recently, if he'd done what Lescott did tonight, there'd be no stopping the anti-MDM group.

He, MDM and Nastasic are just not good enough.

If we don't buy a too quality CB this summer then someone needs sacking because we have now had 4 windows to address this and have failed miserably every time.

We just wasn't good enough in several areas.
It's shit but it wasn't lescott fault we didn't win.
It wasnt anyone's fault - we're just not good enough to beat Barca at their place but let's be honest - who is?

The tie was lost in the home leg.

Thought he was awful throughout tbh. Like a traffic cone most of the time, just there for opponents to run around and his ability on the ball seems like its actually getting worse. Only fitting that he assisted their goal with his usual skilfull inability to know where his own feet are. Very frustrating. Why we haven't bought Kompany the partner he deserves, I have no idea

No one doubts that Vinny needs a partner but as things stand he's still way ahead of DM as a defender.

Whoever was responsible for NOT buying Fernando or Mangala in the Jan window needs to shoulder much of any blame.

They all gave everything tonight and everyone of them should be praised.
He gave away a penalty, he passed the ball straight to Messi only to get lucky that Messi hit the post, Messi repeatedly ran straight through him and he was pretty lucky not to have a couple of bookings. I rate Lescott higher than DM, but for me he was awful today, he looked completely out of his depth.

The thing is, JL doesn't play like he's miles better than he is, so therefore concentrates on what he IS good at. That, in effect, allows VK to adapt for the other defiances in JL's game. How rare is it you will see JL push to the half way line in anticipation of the play? You don't and the back line feels more stable for it!!

I KNOW Joleon Lescott is finished at the club, BUT I would rather see him shore up our defence for the rest of the season.

Gimme the MDM argument...

I like lescott but he did fuck up for first goal otherwise I thought he did well as did the players as a whole
Sergio was poor but obviously injured and nasri was first half but alba is a top left back veey fast
Got to put it behind us and win the league now

Most defenders look out of their depth against Messi

Add to that the game situation which necessitated our midfield not protecting the back four as assiduously as usual and I think your criticisms of Lescott are a little harsh

To be fair his passing was not as bad as normal tonight. The problem is his lack of mobility, his reluctance to get in front of an opposing player because he has a lack of reading the game. Also his pace has faded in the last 12 months. His mistake for the goal was terrible - got his feet completely muddled up when he should have just put his foot through it. Lets also not forget his blatant tackle that should have been a penalty. In summary a 5 out of ten performance when we needed an 8 - Just not good enough. Kompany was incredible tonight as was Ferna both unlucky to be out of the Champions league. I would rather have had Karim Rekik partnering Vinny tonight but hey there is always next year.

I agree 100%, well said.
