Tottenham Hotspur hope to sign Joleon Lescott from Manchester City on loan in January transfer window
Spurs in competition with Newcastle United and Monaco to sign Joleon Lescott on six-month loan after Manuel Pellegrini said he could leave Manchester City in January

Tottenham are attempting to fend off interest from Newcastle and Monaco by signing Joleon Lescott on a six-month loan deal after the England defender was given permission to leave Manchester City by Manuel Pellegrini.
The 31-year-old, a £22m signing from Everton in August 2009, held talks with Pellegrini following the New Year’s Day victory at Swansea.
And after making just 13 first-team appearances this season, Pellegrini told Lescott he can leave the Etihad on loan in an effort to boost his chances of securing a permanent move in the summer when his City contract expires.
Turkish outfit Besiktas had made moves to tempt Lescott into a move to Istanbul this month, but the centre-half is understood to favour a move within the Premier League.
Tottenham are keen to bolster their defensive options due to a raft of injuries at White Hart Lane and the north London outfit are the favourites to sign the player, who could make a move before Saturday’s FA Cup third round tie at Arsenal.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is determined to secure defensive reinforcements, however, after losing Fabricio Coloccini for up to six weeks with a knee injury sustained during the defeat against West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday.
Lescott views Monaco as an appealing option, with the wealthy French outfit currently lying second to Paris Saint Germain in Ligue Un.
But with Spurs and Newcastle both set to hold talks with the defender and his representatives this week, Lescott is expected to move to either White Hart Lane or St James’ Park.

Do you think we will be looking to get another Defender in the Jan window?

If Lescott out, 100%

though a bit of a shame , how he fell out of the plans (similar to barry) after the title winning season

With Kompany , Nasty and Martin all injury prone and clearly nobody else other than Lescott available why would we be interested in a move for him in the January window especially when we have on the record no one will be leaving this season.

Vidic and Ferdinand are playing their final 6 months at Manure as well but you won't find them leaving in January.

Just like we cannot afford to lose anybody we have in squad at present in any position why make life harder for ourselves when we don't need to.

We won't find a decent centreback until August at least and we couldn't find a class one with all due respect to Martin last summer.

Players at all clubs fully realise its highly unlikely they will play every game least of all every premiership game.

He's a good pro and never let us down. Personally I'd sooner hang on to him until the summer unless we have a ready made replacement for him in January but I can't really see us doing any buying in January window due to the over inflated prices we'd have to pay.

Not a chance of him going Besiktas imo, will definitely stay in England if he does move in January, unless a big foreign team comes in for him which isn't going to happen. Really like Lescott and will be sad to see him go but he isn't good enough to be a third choice centre back because he needs to be playing regularly to play his best football, in the 11/12 season he was excellent but he doesn't seem able to come in every now and then and play 90 minutes to his best level. A loan move to Spurs would be very good for him, and us as long as we get them to pay a good chunk of his wages.

Also, I think if he goes we should avoid a big money replacement - possibly recall Rekik, although probably best if we let him finish his season at PSV, but anyway, Rekik deserves a chance and replacing Lescott with someone else will only further disillusion Rekik.
