Lescott

Joleon Lescott

Apologies if elsewhere but I can't find any other mention.
Telegraph reporting that Pelle has said he can leave on loan in Jan to see if he can find a club which will take him when his contract expires in the summer ???
Assuming its actually correct, why are we taking this course of action? Firstly, as he has proved many times he is vital defensive cover for the two centre backs. Secondly, if he has to go SELL him now and at least recoup some cash. Saving his wages is not a good enough reason to farm him out, particularly as most clubs expect us to subsidise players wages anyway.
Keep Joleon here.

Re: Joleon Lescott

When a player is in the last year of his contract, with six months left he is free to talk to any club he wishes and sign a contract with said club

He is not getting any younger, has a very limited skillset and is on huge wages.

He can and will be if he leaves be replaced by someone who can be molded and will give us years of service hopefully at the top level that Lescott won't.

Pretty simple really.

Good point, but it doesn't mean he can go there now, when we might actually need him. Much better to have the insurance of a tried and tested defender in situ.

It doesn't mean he can't though either.
I think Pelle wants him until end of the season but recognizes Joleon wants first team footy now.
He is a good man manager so will probably have said as much to him.

Re: Joleon Lescott

All fair points but if he does go we HAVE to replace him. What with ? Jan is the worst possible time to HAVE to recruit as you're simply held over a barrel by the selling club,. Either that or you're forced into buying someone short term 'just in case' only to have to offload again a year down the line.
Sorry, maybe I just like the devil you know, even with his technical shortcomings.

Re: Joleon Lescott

We bought NDJ for18 mill when he had only 6 months left on his contract
