Licence Fee (TV)

When my dad had to go on the sick and they had little money, she started selling similar to a car boot thing. She stopped because she was making £5 -£10 over what she was allowed without it affecting his state sickness benefit !!

All her money was cash but she still wouldn't be dodgy so there is no way she'd not pay her licence.
I'm more annoyed she used to get it free because of her age, now because they pay perverts stupid money to read the news, they have scrapped that.
Does she live on her own? If so maybe get her a video doorbell so she can see and speak to callers. And if it's Capita calling she can tell them politely to go away. They'll probably try intimidating her because that's what they do but as long as she doesn't let them in there's simply nothing they can do.

I can't understand why so many people still pay their licence tbh. They can whistle dixie for my license money.

It's that sense of doing what's right, some people are unable to break the law or not pay there way.
It annoys me that the BBC can coerce and threaten pensioners in this way. It's all wrong.
People in other countries find it hard to accept the concept of a law that requires you to have a licence if you own a tv.

Plus when I was a kid the BBC banned Elvis and most Rock and roll. This was at a time when they had a monopoly on tv and radio.....All wrong when you think they then protect people like Saville.

Cheers I will look into that for her.
The stupid question award goes to me for asking, doesn't she need someone to 'attend', I.e. come in the house?
Like I say say I will look into it and get the answer.

Edit: unfortunately she doesn't qualify but again thank you.
Even if it’s just a family member calling in regularly to do stuff like help with shopping and cooking, cleaning the home, it’s cheaper for the government to pay this small amount than send a care worker round.

It’s also a sense of paying for what you use and most people don’t mind doing that. The thing about the licence is that I think it keeps TV cheaper for everyone. If the idea is abandoned it could lead to a lot of programming going behind paywalls in the same way a lot of media outlets have done. It’s a social project similar to the NHS, it’s not designed for everyone, it’s designed so that it’s available if you need it and it’s no surprise that many of the objectors are people who see an opportunity to make money by privatisation. The BBC wouldn’t last five minutes out of the hands of the Americans.

Ohhh FFS, send it to the gallows already :)

Just don't agree with people having to pay for a service they don't necessarily want.

But that’s how it works, everyone puts in. The idea is to guarantee cheap access to quality programming and the BBC still do that. Just because there’s more choices now doesn’t change that. Even if I never used any part of the BBC I would still be happy to pay to ensure that others have access to the wide range of radio, education and so on. As it is I still get good value out of it but then I watch a lot of documentaries and snooker.

That said, I agree its role is diminishing and some day in the future I might not think the same way. I also don’t agree that pensioners should pay for a licence either.

Not only did they ban Elvis, because of the bbc musicians union, no bands were allowed to play their own music. It had to be the bbc orchestra.
How ridiculous was that? An orchestra trying to do Tamla Motown.
