I'm firmly in the "it will never, ever happen ever" camp, as;

1) I feel that's genuinely the case
2) Everyone loves surprises

Not sure why everyone is focusing on whether Messi wants to leave the real issue isn't City or Messi but Barca.

Barca have an asset who will depreciate 150m euros over the next 4 years and who will cost them around 80m not that time. It is an asset that is actually worth less to them than to anyone else and an asset they have two replacements for and have shown they can be nearly as good without. Barca have debt and a new stadium to build and they can to choose to cash in and benefit from about 250m p and l boost or they can choose to keep and be marginally better than they would otherwise be ie they are probably the best attacking team in the world even without Messi.

So for me it is not about Messi but about Barca, he will soon get the message if they would prefer the cash and I can't see him staying if he is not their main priority and focus. It is this that will make the move happen and not Messi agitating. The trouble stopping the move is Barca want to come out of this the reluctant sellers so they can pretend they wanted to keep him in front of the fans whilst cashing in. This political game between club and player is huge at the moment.

The Real Madrid game clinched it for me 4-0 win without Messi . My bet is they won't keep both Messi and Neymar and they will cash in on the older one

If we were to sign him then what would happen with the shirt number situations as Kun has only just changed to number 10 and Messi would want it also?
They would both throw a strop and leave and after an injury to Ichy we would go into next season with Bony pir only striker before signing Vardy in Jan

field of dreams ,build it and they will come. Our owners are intending to buld the Etihad upto 60,000,lets not kid ourselves we are struggling to fill it now on a game after game basis so I genuinely think the signing of Messi was always on the agenda knowing it will fill it every game

Messi will want to retire in Argentina surely, so if we spend such a huge sum of money we might expect to have him for what, 3 years until he's 32? He's 29 in June.

Can we recoup the expense in that time from him being here? Or does the money not really matter?

If I was making the decisions at Barca, I'd be heavily leaning to selling him as now is the time to cash in if they need money to reinvest. They have an ageing squad in other positions that need to be addressed.

How can they be secret talks if it's plastered all over the Internet?

His basic is, I believe, £13m a year. Anything on top of that comes via joint commercial deals, which are split between him and Barcelona. So that figure is all we'd have to find out of our own pocket but we'd get that in extra revenue from a renegotiated kit deal with Nike.

Imagine having to fit Aguero, Messi, Sterling, De Bruyne, Silva, Pogba and who ever else we have next season into a possible starting line up which will prob be 433 under pep too :-0

Plus Peps reported £14m wages....£30 odd million on top of what we already pay,is a lot of money, still doable?
Just asking for you opinion mate.
Sure I read somewhere that if the wage bill is over £52m,an increase of £4m is allowed,I may of miss read, dunno.

It's all do-able. Just getting to a CL semi-final probably makes it financially worthwhile.

Re the wages thing, you can only fund up to a £4m increae (thinks it's £6m this year then £8m from next) from TV income but as much as you like from additional commercial or matchday revenue. So if your wage bill goes up £10m, £4m of that can come from increased TV revenue and the other £6m from increased commercial/matchday income.
