After tonights result messi could be nearer than we think. Also after Barca going out of champs league and they could possibly lose the league to athletico also add to that a 12 month transfer embargo and bobs your uncle.Could be clutching at straws but this could force the board to consider any iminent bids. So this could be on its going to be a interesting summer.

why would they sell messi this summer if they couldn't spend any of the profit

Stadium expansion?

Messi being slammed over in Spain for Barcelona's exit, several ex players chiming in too, some going as far as to say he is losing the drive to succeed and turning into a Ronaldinho-esque situation. Interesting. Firmly believe the only way he will ever leave is if he feels unloved and unwanted at Barca.

Do they really want to spend the money? The transfer ban could be the exact opportunity they are looking for to keep the money safely in their own back pocket.

This self-funding claim. If it's a no-brainer, why isn't every big club rushing to pay his release clause?

Another thing that would concern me is putting so many eggs in one basket. This lad's body has taken a battering at top level for years. He could pick up a long term injury so easily.

This reminds me of the Kaka episode. He was similarly one of the world's top players with a marketing image to die for. What a let-down that would have been.

Not that I believe it will happen anyway.
Most clubs don't have the Liquid financial muscle to pay the release clause up front.

I actually agree.

I think he's peaked. Obviously he's still an amazing player, but he's not quite as fast as he was and definitely doesn't work as hard. I think against physical teams he struggles a little - Athletico Madrid, Chelsea and even Celtic are examples of this.

Barca have rushed him back from injury a few times and we only have to look at Torres to see what that does to a player.

I'm not saying he'll end up like Torres, far from it, but I don't think he'll get back to being as good as he was in 2009-12.

I wouldn't want us to spend £250 million (reported price) for him.

Sign of good management at a club is knowing when the right time is to sell a player. That is what Fergie at the Rags was very good at.
Messi is in the top 3 word stars alongside Ronaldo and for arguments sake Neymar. Question for Barca when is the right time to cash in on him. Ignoring the soon to be overturned transfer ban the cash they could make now from selling him could strengthen an ageing squad. Or do they wait another year for Neymar to find his feet fully and then get rid.

At the moment he is Barca and footballs No1 player but it only takes Ronaldo to win another Ballon d'or and the media will start classing Messi as a past great.

No, Pinto ran nearly as far though.
