So every time the Messi camp leak info or release a statement there’s a social media account within seconds denouncing it and saying he’s agreed to stay... See how that works. It’s a deflection tactic, a desperate move by a man who knows he’s the captain of a sinking ship who faces a huge bill come election time that he simply can’t pay. The same man who paid in the past, a social media team to spread negative comments and bollocks about those he feels are a threat. Do you not see the pattern here? Lol.

None of this timeline makes sense.

- Messi's OWN father releases a statement saying his contract contains NO €700m clause
- La Liga respond saying Messi is reading his contract 'too literally' and it does have a clause (How else are you meant to read a contract btw? Wankers)
- Spanish & Argentine media report he is staying to avoid a legal battle and will leave for free in 2021

WHAT THE FUCK?

Is this the situation where Barca can’t afford to lose him this season and Messi doesn’t want to go to court, so it’s agreed one more season and leave for free with all parties parting amicably.

Might be the single most shameless PR move by the Messi's if they've dragged this drama for 10 days just so they can reiterate there's no clause then say 'look my son could leave for free but he loves Barça and so will stay'

Few people on twitter now saying looks like the Messi father statement was a PR thing

Make it look like he was free to leave but has chosen to stay

Seriously mate, absolutely not wumming.

I'm just happy if the reports of him staying are true and I wouldn't want us to go anywhere near him in the future if that were to be the case.

He's got form for this sort of thing, he's done it before, and if he stays this summer he will do it again. Its a circus and I think City are bigger than any player and shouldn't allow ourselves to continually get played like this.

Thats said I accept my views are in the minority on here and I'm fine with that. I'd love to be proven wrong. Messi signs next week (for free), stays for 3 years or so,scores a load of goals and assists and helps us win it all then rides off into the sunset. Who wouldnt want that?

I just dont see it happening. Once bitten twice shy etc.
He has had tantrums before certainly. They are a different ball park to activating a clause to leave along with a letter slamming La Liga and Barca's efforts to hold on to him though. This is very different.

The most logical next step is for Messi’s camp to file a request for international transfer with FIFA ... then use that to sign with City but that leaves both City and him exposed to legal challenge by Barca ... and I’m not sure City would sign him based on that FIFA’s permission alone ...

Then comes another option, which is better for both City and Messi ... that he now files in the Spanish court system for a clarification on his clause (and I think this whole back and forth with La Liga in statements and Barca first with that Bureaufax is all a foundation that can be used there) so if Spanish court gives a judgement on explaining their understanding of the clause, he’s then free to do as he pleases (ie. sign for City) if court rules in his favour, which I’m sure he’s pretty confident of, and not just him, surely all this has been discussed and shared with Tixki, Soriano and Pep and all the way to Kahldoon and their lawyers too otherwise he’d not be encouraged to go along with those heavy steps like that bureaufax and now these statements directly challenging La Liga’s statement and even inserting a clause from the actual agreement ...

So basically calm down everyone ... he’s coming to us ... but it’s still a couple of weeks away at least!
