That may be well and good but it's hearsay and conjecture.

As has always been the case regarding Messi/City.

There is no irrefutable evidence with regards to any involvement in the club signing Messi. Two years of effort and no more than speculation over a vague quote from a Barca official.
What the fuck would you expect to see?

More than a few posts on a forum given the magnitude of such a deal

Not saying that I think we are signing him but you know the speculation is more than that.

What would happen if city signed messi for 200m today and said UEFA you have seen out accounts we are now OK the first 6 months is a loan and in June we pay 150m

Would UEFA ban their biggest player , the face of Adidas and ban a club on ffp grounds that is making money and probably would have Madeira support as they would be weakening Barca and also are finding their ground as well as support of PSG.

It would be a very courageous move by Uefa to do so.

Wouldn't need too. Several ways to sign him and pay over time. loan with a guarantee to purchase. Messi can pay his own release if he wanted too, say for a long contract that would pay him back with interest.

Very good thinking if he buys his way out and it is structured like this then there is no transfer fee! There would be salary and wages but there is a lot more scope here .

I often wondered what would happen if you offered someone like him a 10 year deal or longer with the latter part maybe as player maybe as ambassador, maybe on loan elsewhere ?

not an expert on finances but should city sign messi then if uefa tries to ban us from CL for supposed ffp infringement wouldn't it be hurting itself. Woudnt its sponsors pay less, i assume messi is a big factor in the sponsorship money that uefa gets?

That's what I meant they would be very brave to say to their sponsors we are going to devalue your product significantly !

Some interesting thoughts though if messi is loaned the money to buy himself out and then moves does a transfer fee actually get paid. I had always thought a 20m loan fee till June was the way to go but maybe there is no fee at all??? What are their rules on this.

Nothing at all if the management of the two clubs and player is highly professional

I suppose if you include the countless "City and Chelsea on red alert" stories every time Messi shows up a few minutes late for training.

Otherwise as far as I'm aware, sincerely, there's isn't any remotely concrete evidence. So no, I don't know.

Such a mega deal could go two ways;

1) Complete professionalism with regards to discussions and negotiations kept private

2) Media attention at every corner

Neither would explain the lack of evidence outside of a football forum's transfer forum, in fact the first scenario would be in question.

"You know that Messi bloke? One of the best, powerful and most recognizable players in world football? Well, he's off to City according to an internet forum but keep quiet the clubs don't want anyone knowing"

I appreciate people posting in good faith regarding transfers, however, I retain the right to be skeptical. Especially with a deal such as any to sign Messi.

To be fair if professional organisations are dealing with a deal of this magnitude there would be non disclosure agreements in place and it should be watertight.

In business deals worth tens of billions take place without much speculation at all, as any leaks or disclosure would usually be illegal. Football is going that way more and more and the days of agents playing the media I suspect will become fewer and fewer. With a deal like messi there wouldn't need to be many press leaks it's not like anyone would need to be encouraged to come in.

I would hope there would be no evidence be it us, PSG or Chelsea as it would imply real unprofessionalism (actually let PSG and Chelsea be unprofessional)

Exactly.

Hence my, quite reasonable, skepticism of any information posted on a transfer forum given the sheer magnitude of what would be the biggest transfer ever.

There's a fair difference in Stuart Taylor signing on a free transfer and Lionel Messi signing for anyone.
