I dont even rate Messi
Too small, doesn't track backHe's too one-footed.
It's a thread because we've made serious attempts to sign him, we've got the financial & commercial stuff in place and we've had indications that he'd come if he felt it was the right thing to do. Of course it's that last bit that's been the problem.C'mon guys, why is this even a thread?

He's 2 years younger than David Silva so if people believe that we can get another 3 years out of Silva then we can get 5 years out of Messi. And, as I've said before, it's essentially a zero-cost deal as he's one of the very few players that has so much commercial pulling power that the money flows in behind him. And I'm not talking about shirt sales.
First two paragraphs are spot on mate.messi to manchester city would be great for both on and of the field of play
we need somebody like him to raise the club on a commercial front getting fans with messi on the shirts walking around in the world and it as a follow on effect with others wanting that shirt if so and so got one
then on the field he is still light years ahead of anything we have at he club that little bit of magic the fear factor the sound of the fans getting off there seat when he on the ball and he is still young enough to make a mark in the premier league with 3 to 5 years to build something special
the only down side would be price tag and would take something daft to even get barca to sell and the FFPR would need to be looked at by uefa and change it or scrap once and for all they could not have the champions league football without messi being banned for coming to manchester city it would show what they really are

The one about FFP is wide of the mark though. The figures in 2013, when this deal was put together, envisaged a fee of £180m. That breaks down to £36m a year in the accounts. But as a result of signing him our kit manufacturer pays us £25m a year, which is over double what we're getting from Nike currently, and Etihad increase their sponsorship from say £40m a year to £65m. So that's £36m extra a year going out but at least that additional income coming in. We do similar with his wages so there's little or no impact on the bottom line. In fact we might even see a net benefit if we can get him for £100m and get an even better deal out of Nike or whoever.
