Having read the last 10 pages and trying to make sense of it, am I right in thinking he has made some kind of u turn and we look stupid?
You’re getting both a no and a yes answer from different people.
I’ll respond to you, since you worded the question.
Whether there is a U-turn of any kind or not, why do you think it would make us look stupid?
I think we are looking very professional in this no matter what the outcome is.

The legal case is a 50-50, I doubt either side wants that option.

If Barca lose they'll lose player for nothing and ruin the relationship with their greatest player. If we lose we probably have to pay some astronomical amount to Barca and might get banned aswell from future transfers for breaking the rules.
We are not involved, this is between messi and barca

All I can say is that I do not trust Bartomeu
As another poster commented above, it’s not a good look for Barca to be seen to be pushing Messi out. But do you feel this situation has been preempted by Bartomeu as a way of shifting Messi whilst taking advantage of the ambiguity of the contract terms to make a few quid, and making it look like Messi is pushing for the move?

The ‘no privileges’ meeting with the new manager and the treatment of Suarez look provocative.

No, he didn't make a U-turn. He still wants to leave regardless of whether or not Barto resigns. However he is now willing to have his lawyers sit down and discuss it amicably with Barto - this is different to his stance in the past couple of days since he's been ignoring him ever since he sent the Burofax. Barto on the other hand is saying that he doesn't want to sell him and that we would have to pay the 700m if we want him, and that he doesn't even want to sit and discuss with Messi's lawyers. It's still all politics and strategy, nothing has changed.
Very worrying all the same. It’s just my way but I feel less and less hopeful every day

It would seem that Spanish law places great emphasis on what's actually written, rather than what's intended. So if the contract says he can give notice by the 30th June, then a Spanish court will probably uphold that. However, if it goes to a Swiss jurisdiction like CAS, it's entirely possible they'll ignore the actual wording and agree that the intent was "the end of the season", which was probably the end of this month under the current scenario.
The problem is Messi won't be able to play until this is resolved. Plus City surely wouldn't risk the possibility of having to pay out €700m.

We as in the club or the fans?

As far as I’m aware the club have made no comment at all whether they are in for Messi so how can they look stupid

Surely it also means Messi couldn’t play for Barca either if he’s disputing that he is still under contract with them.
I would think that is the significance of whether he trains with them or not. If he does, is that an admission that he is in pre-season training or is it just that. Pre-season. Meaning the new season still hasn’t started.

We’re all guessing. I’m sure all sides have their very competent legal teams all over it.
