The support wasn't brilliant, although Heart were okay, from what I remember. Julian Cope got bottled during the Teardrops' set but what did he expect, having slagged off Queen/their fans in the run up to the gig? Dozy ****. That concert was supposed to be at the Meccano Set on the edge of town, but the local council wouldn't issue a licence for the concert. Same with the Milton Keynes gig the following week. Pretty sure that was supposed to be at Highbury. The cost of the ticket; £9. Fucking hilarious. You Wouldn't get a soft drink for that now, at a top notch stadium gig. How much was it to get into Metallica at the Emptihad last summer?

By the way; you're right. It was absolutely roasting that day at L***s. Same weekend the Pope was in Heaton Pk.

Yeah - I always remembered Julian Cope getting bottled off stage - we all pissed ourselves laughing then the promoter - was it Harvey Goldsmith? - came out and told us no-one else was coming out so we had to stand there for over an hour in the glare of the sun clutching a tin of coke that was getting warmer and warmer.......

Yeah - this was 29th May 82 and the Pope was a couple of days later - the then Mrs was with me at Elland Road but I declined the chance to return the favour at Heaton Park - I know it was John Paul but without George and Ringo I thought the performance might be lacking something.....

Queen at Elland Road - was there too. Teardrop Explodes was a strange choice to say the least......The other support band was INXS i recall, so not bad.

An iconic concert for me - Freddie Mercury tribute at Wembley.

The Prodigy at Manchester Academy circa 92
Remember being at that one. Saw them a few years earlier do a PA at Hippos in Middleton aswell.
Three that stick in my mind are
AC/DC Apollo in 1982
Sister Sledge at the Davenport must of been mid 80s
Oasis at Roseland ballroom New York 1995

oh and Spike Island not that memorable really but glad i was there

Had to check, but Bowie played 4 days later. Wasn't a great venue if I recall, a bit like a large warehouse!
Saw Bowie there , your right , terrible venue miles from anywhere, it was Bowie so it didn’t really matter then

Smiths Salford 1986
Stone Roses International 2 May 1989
Chameleons Witchwood Ashton May 2000 (5 nights in a row!)
