Liverpool FA Cup s/f (N) | Post Match Thread

Disappointed by the lack of intensity in the first half. If you're playing a weakened team because the strongest 11 is knackered, then the one thing you should expect is for them to put a shift in. It very much seemed like a conserving energy performance, but in that case, it seems strange to play our usual game, because it's never going to work if you're not playing with intensity.

I don't think we played anywhere as bad as the match day thread described it. I had accepted 1-3 then Bernie the bastard scored to make me think we're gonna do a Spurs.

What's more likely is Pep will do something out there tactically and fuck us in the final.

As per Chelsea last season we haven't beaten Liverpool this season so he's bound to think outside the box.
 
Honestly, I’m not one to criticise but that was horrendous. You just don’t start with this XI against Liverpool. What’s the point progressing into the final stages of cups if we keep throwing them away like this? Why wait until after the 80th minute to throw in players who can influence the game. Besides Foden’s instant impact after coming on in the first leg against AM, what’s going on with his dip in form. Grealish not doing enough to start in a game like this. Zinchenko not getting much game time lately really showed today. Anyone else bothered to run as hard as Bernado was?

Every City fan at the stadium today deserves a refund. Liverpool weren’t even anywhere near their best. Yet we have to rotate keepers because it’s a “cup tie”. As far as I’m concerned, we’ve probably got Liverpool thinking they can seriously go and get the quadruple from here.

I hope this doesn’t shatter our confidence and affect us keeping our heads in the league and CL. I’ll love them again tomorrow morning but that was seriously infuriating and we’ve only got ourselves and poor game management to blame for it.
 
Some self inflicted wounds like not starting Ederson from Pep. Thing is, Liverpool won't just hand us the league just because we threw away the FA cup. Even if some people seem to think that. That was a winnable game.

How? We battered them the two league games with them getting favourable ref decisions. Today we had half a team and a goalie who was shit scared.

id fancy us full strength in a final.
 
On reflection the goalie had a shocker. Ederson may even go in at half time 0-0. Ferna was poor first half but recovered well, ditto the attackers.

Ake Stones Zinchenko all showed great defending for me against probably the best forward line in europe.

They scored a brilliant header and it should have been 0-1 at half time - we were just starting to knock it about well and then second goal ends the game really and we’re all over the place for the rest of the half.

Probably damages Steffen’s career and it will ruin him

There’s a good chance that if we don’t win the CL or PL that Liverpool do the quadruple.

If Pep allows that to happen then he should never set foot in Manchester even again.
 
Bizarrely although they let in 3 the defenders did ok And our best unit today

midfield and attack poor as was the coaching staff.

moaning about subs and never using them.

So by that logic we've been better than them and they've still beaten us... That's a definite psychological edge
 
Oh well if we the league today will be more bearable. To be fair to Pep this wasn’t the game you want so close to Athletico. However the lack of substitutions suggest an attitude that Pep wasn’t too bothered if we lost. Disappointing for fans who went today especially.

mate if pep bottled it by playing steffen over ederson it really doesn't sound like that big a deal
 
Next year just give youth players a big chance in FA Cup. whats the points getting to semis and fold like this with the team line up. clearly if today is a CL semifinal we dont do this no matter how tired we are. so FA can can take the back seat for sure, I am all for it, but then give young players a chance.

not asking for EDS team to start, but 3-4 of the best of them can start with a mixture of A and B team combined.

LEts be honest we aint gonna see Delap, McAtee, Lavia playing 1 minute this season anymore. and its not like they played a lot in recent months either.

McAtee wanted more game time before he signed the contract renewal, even wanted to go on loan a big in January. we kept him and he played 10 minutes vs Fulham early February? next game for him is probably some summer pre season friendly.
same for Delap, 10 min vs Fulham in the FA cup. actually this is more dumb, given our clear issues with finishing chances and we keep creating chances for Jesus, Sterling etc, who keep missing them at a great rate.

worst thing is the the momentum we gave Liverpool today. just like the Carabao trophies and success helped us in recent years, its helping them this year and being in another cup final now is huge. they are very clsoe to a domestic treble and have all the momentum seemingly to do it.

only we can stop them, and we fail to beat them last week and they were there for taking.
today we were there for taking first half, and it was 3-0 for them easily.

this today can cost us more than the Fa cup final if we drop our concentration just a bit in next few weeks.
 
We have to storm the league and CL now, today has given them momentum but we're the only ones who can refitfy that. It can still be a great season. Huge few weeks upcoming.
