Liverpool FA Cup s/f (N) | Post Match Thread

Pep has always had the rolls royce on call. Whether is was inheriting that ridiculous core of Messi, Xavi, Iniesta at Barcelona, to the unprecedented power of the single club league in Germany, to his ability at Man City to activate any release clause he wants. Pep has never never known struggle. That's the biggest criticism of Pep, and its valid.

Granted Pep knows how to get a team playing elite level football. But if you gave Pep and Klopp 100m to build up a squad over three years. After those three years, I think I know which team would be at a higher level

You are talking complete bollocks. Pep was a novice when he took over the Barcelona first team. He had managed their B team when he was offered the job and told them they must have big balls to do so as it was a gamble. He won 14 trophies in 4 seasons and is their most successful manager ever. He totally reinvented the side, shipping out a number of big name players to do so and made them into what people regard as the best club side ever.

At City he has done the same. He was laughed at and mocked in his first season as he started to rebuild an ageing squad and implement his style of football. He was called a bald fraud and told by many so called experts his style of football would never work in the premier league. He has since won it three times, the league cup four times and the fa cup once.

He has revolutionised football in this country in that almost every club plays out from the back and now plays better football. He has smashed record after record and became the first manager to win a domestic treble and gain 100 points in the premier league. He doesn't have an unlimited budget, can't spend what he likes or pay any release clause he wants and he is bound by ffp rules like every other club.

Klopp has been here longer and to date has won three trophies. His style is high pressing, more direct and counter attacking. This style has been around for ages, Manchester United played it often under Ferguson

Guardiola is human, makes mistakes but he is a football genius who has changed football for the better as well as remaining kind, grounded and humble. If you deny any of that you are a complete cretin looking through biased envious eyes. Mind you that sums up your average bat shit thick football fan so don't feel too bad.

I did go and thankfully the journey home was quick.

The game was something John Carpenter dreamt up.

The error from Steffen was undeniably appalling. They showed it over at HT on the concourse screens and Zack just doesn't look at Mane. His dreams will be directed by Wes Craven for many nights to come.

I would have started Ederson for this game, due to their press, but I would not have expected that error from Zack and he should not be scapegoated. The defending on all of their goals was not good enough.

The the first two goals shook City; especially the second and they needed time to clear thier heads an get onto some sort of track.

Slightly better finishing and we might have salvaged something so the team deserves credit for fighting to the end but it's a bitter blow.
I remember supporters having a go at Caballero, back in the day, but his penalty saves won us a trophy.
Ok, Steffen made a careless error but don't hang him for it.
Their first goal should have been scrutinised by var. Steffen, from his position, saw the flight of the ball from the corner and imo he believed it had gone out of play, his belief reinforced by one of our players (Bernardo?) raising his arm trying to draw the referees' attention to the fact. This would explain his lack of commitment to try and make a save. Steffen would also have been aware of the foul (heavy push) on Grealish. Either of these incidents could/should have resulted in their first goal being disallowed.
Jesus and Sterling both missed good chances too, so have a go at Zack if you must, but it wasn't all down to him that we lost.
As for the supporters who made the effort to get to Wembley for the match take pride in the fact that you were part of the occasion and the result, whilst disappointing, wasn't the end of the world really.
How many supporters of other clubs would have given their right arms to have seen their team play at Wembley, win or lose?

My daughter got shouted at and verbally rounded on for standing up and giving it some to gee our boys on. Got told to sit down and that she shouldn’t be swearing and all that. That they didn’t want swearing and chanting and people standing etc no kids etc around she had already checked.. I expect she gave as good as she got to the FOCs but.. she couldn’t believe how flat the crowd was . I wasn’t there so am relating this second hand.

Where was she sat mate?

I'm not paid to know every midfielder in Europe.

My point wasn't really about Rodri. It was the other lot getting 3 relatively cheap players who fitted into the side immediately, without needing a year to bed in or other players needed to help them do their job and all for the price of Grealish.

I wish we could do the same. We have the best manager in Pep yet each season the club is making some mistakes in the window, not getting in players leaving us with no options, not getting backup so when a player is out we have no one to replace, not replacing such as letting Fern grow old without a replacement or letting Sane and Torres leave with no replacement. Also bringing in forward players that almost always need a year before they start doing anything.

The club keeps expecting Pep to work miracles. Thankfully for us he has.
Knee jerk rubbish after 2nd loss in 20 odd games. Sane and Torres both wanted to leave and we don't just sign players to make up the numbers.

BTW nice deflection about Rodri, you couldn't get a name because there isn't a better option.

If we go on to win the PL and CL. + Chelsea win the FA cup. This will be forgotten quickly. Right now, it just feels like we've handed Liverpool a golden opportunity to win a quadruple. If that happened, i don't think i could continue watching football.
I want Palace to win...

My wife said to me this morning, we have become exactly what we hated… self entitled! When things don’t go or way a lot of fans hate it and piss and moan. Success has been our fanbases failure! We’re expected to win and when we don’t we can’t take it. Bloke next to us left with his 2 kids just before half time and didn’t return!
So poor yesterday. I’m over the result, I’m still struggling with our fan base!

Sniff, sniff. You're talking absolute bollocks. Football fans in getting upset if their team doesn't win and/or plays shit shocker. I have news for you that's happened since football was invented. It happened when we used to get beat almost every week and we'd come to expect it then. Nothing to do with being entitled. Football fans moan, hate getting beat and want to win. End of.

Look Ivwoyld have liked to have seen a massive vocal support at the game yesterday but its not the end of the world if we had a few gaps. Expecting lads who have not attended a match in years to suddenly get it together to buy tickets and arrange transport down to London is unrealistic.
And at other times at Wembley we've had a few thousand more fans in the stadium than Chelsea and Arsenal (bus ride for them) when it's been their only trophy to go for. We've had thousands of fans in blocks in the opposing end. Didn't hear anyone mentioning that. Fact is, United and Liverpool have massive fanbases to pick up the slack. Our fans don't have bottomless pockets.

Are you sure about that? What if Liverpool actually do a sweep quadruple?

He also build Liverpool up from outside the top 4.

You also need to remember, Pep legendary status comes from his time at Barcelona, not Bayern or Man City.
What if my auntie had a pair of bollocks she’d be my uncle - let’s talk about stuff that’s actually happened.

Outside the top 4 you say, yeah they were 6th the season before he joined so not that much of a “build up”

Pep’s reputation as a genius, a pioneer and a visionary comes from his whole body of work. His work at Barca speaks for itself. His work at Bayern doesn’t need to because every man and his dog in German football - players, coaches, journalists - speak glowingly of his time there.

His work at City surpasses anything he’s done before, he’s revolutionised football in this country from top to bottom. Sunday league teams play out from the back ffs. Ways of playing particular to certain positions that seemed set in stone since the game began have been changed by Pep.

Are you really a “friendlygooner” ?
You sound more like an unfriendly dipper to me.

Pep has done nowt at City, the two highest premier league points totals and a domestic treble never happened.

What more can be said that already hasn't.
On reflection, I've decided that after a 17 hour round trip, I won't be doing anymore Wembley semi finals.
I was in that little fanzone outside Wembley arena when the team was announced, and to a man everyone in my vicinity looked deflated, Pep had done a Pep, he'd handed the initiative to Liverpool and to a team and fan base that as much as I dislike them, it did mean more.
Onto the game, it's a long time since I've seen us look so dis jointed, there was no structure, no leadership, nothing. Some of more senior and experienced players failed miserably, we seemed to be constantly switching positions purely for switching positions sake.
I'm not gonna pile on Zack, he knows he fucked up and cost us the game, what I was fewming at during the game, it was obvious his confidence was shot to pieces, he even had Fern taking his goal kicks, but we kept on passing the ball back to him putting under more needless pressure.
I could go right through the team and critisize them individually, not one player did themselves justice yesterday, I'd sooner Pep throw the FA cup in the 3rd round than the semi final again and save us the time, hope and expense it incurs.
We've given Liverpool a massive confidence boost.
When you see Bernardo eventually give up chasing balls and Kevin shaking his head on the bench. Fair enough he didn’t prioritise yesterday which I can understand, but I don’t want to hear any excuses before or after Wednesday at all as that won’t wash.
