Liverpool (h) - CL QF post match thread

Putting Fernandinho in the back four meant we lost a man in the centre of the pitch and lost the game as a result

Can’t believe we didn’t go all out to win the league against United for that

Can’t fault the first half, first twenty minutes we were superb, got a goal and had them on the ropes, they weathered the storm and for the last twenty we lost momentum a bit but was still unlucky with a few chances and decisions.

Second half was a repeat of the united second half and the anfield game, a complete lack of intensity from us which then allowed them the time and space to hit us and get the crucial goals. We Rarely threatened the goal and seemed to just pass for the sake of it. Very reminiscent of the slump period of last season.

When you look at the bigger picture we just got beat 5-1 by what is widely accepted to be a vastly inferior side man for man, that’s unacceptable.

Pep had to take blame for that. You don’t keep on doing the same thing over and over when it’s been proven to not work he has to be adaptable enough to find ways around it.

Klopp’s clearly got his number and whilst you can say they’re a one off in terms of being perfectly suited to counter us you can guarantee others will try and replicate it in the future, and even if none successfully do, you can’t allow another team to have you completely sussed out to that extent. you can’t rely on not having to play them as there’s a high probability we will in at least one cup competition.

This week as a whole has been an absolute disaster. It could not have been any worse and has really soiled what could and should be a memorable season. Sadly, rightly or wrongly in years to come this season will be remembered for this week and not the 9 months of football before it.
Too many flaky players, only kev and fern stood up to be counted last 20 and sterling only started once the game was over

You can moan about bent refs all day long, but it has to be said Liverpool were better than us over both legs, they took their chances, we didn't.

Five goals don't lie....poor defending.
They do bloody lie though one of them was offside for a start mate... what are you talking about... doesn't get more of a lie than that!

The scoreline also lies as we should have had a penalty and two goals ourselves. Poorly thought out argument pretending the refs decisions weren't a factor.

Bad time for repeatedly poor 45 mins.
First half, Anfield. Last two second halves at Etihad.
Looks like the lads, or at least some of them, are knackered.

Bad time for the worst run of results in years.

Time to regroup and get back to basics.
Which I don’t understand because we’ve been taking our foot off the gas in almost all games and rotating the team all season for this shit. So what was all that for?

So you're honestly trying to make out an offside goal against the run of play doesn't change a game? An onside goal ruled out doesn't let the opposition off the hook? A penalty not given and a possible red card means nothing?...
Mate it happens to teams every week, and missing sitters changes games see Saturday's game, truth is tonight we had a lot of possession we got balls in good areas but then it all fell down, the final ball was crap, our corners were crap yet again, but hey ho, it will always be the refs fault, I agree ref had a poor game, but also we had a poor game

We really should've been playing that much better for these stupid decisions to not mean anything. The fact we're debating so much about bad calls means that we just weren't good enough to keep our fate in our hands.

I think you'd better take a reality check. Over two legs Liverpool had a goal which began with a pass to an offside player allowed then we had a legitimate goal disallowed and then a clear penalty turned down. A 2-1 defeat rather than 3-0 would have given the tie a completely different complexion especially as the act of riot and civil disorder as we travelled to the ground is supposed not to have affected our performance. Then, of course, there's the perfectly good goal which was disallowed just before half time tonight. And shall we mention the onside goal ruled out for offside in the second half? Name a team which would win a two legged tie in which they have had three good goals ruled out and a clear penalty turned down while their opponent has had an offside goal awarded. Our fate was never in our hands. We're just fortunate there's no agenda.

The dicks on bt don' seem to understand the enormity of the disallowed goal, 2-0 Is a huge difference but all wobble gob could say was you'v got to take with the rough with the smooth, well when the fuck are we gonna get some smooth!!
This^
If we get just 50% of the decisions we should have , then it's 3-1 at Anfield and 2 -0 at half time at the Etihad and we would have been in the boss seat.
Liverpool got ALL the decisions, if we get ALL the decisions we win that.
I know we miss chances and our defence is shit at times but that tie was not played on a level playing field.

Would have been soft but Sterling was pulled down by Robertson

Or Milners handball which stops a goal bound shot and yes, it would have been harsh but had it been the other way you can guarantee it would have been given.
