Liverpool (h) - CL QF post match thread

No. stating a point.

The CL is the be all and end all in the modern game.

The league title is irrelevant in comparison.

You ask Pep, the board and the owner what they want.
So do you think Madrid would prefer their last decade or Barcelona's?

We probably didn't look at coz at that point the tie could have been 3-2 to City if not for shit refereeing decisions over both ties. I'll give Liverpool credit for taking their chances but make no mistake, City were cheated in both games.

You generally don’t win these games when you concede 5 goals. Very very poor defending both games.

We lost 5-1 but that doesn’t begin to tell the story. 2 fucking offside goals given against us which were on, 2 clear penalties not given... one offside goal for them. It’s ridiculous. What annoys me is that it will get swept under the carpet.

This is really what is turning me away from the game. I cannot say we would have won and gone through if we had not been shafted by refereeing but it leaves a bad taste, and almost a feeling of having expected this from the moment the draw was made.

Thats this and the FA Cup we have gone out having been shafted. Get beat fair and square no problem, but this farcical never ending cycle of bent officials is not right.

Proud of this side, its players and the gaffer.

Both legs fucked over by bent/shit decisions at key times and but for that and some luck or even just some fairness?

Players must think at times wtf as they get shafted time and time again.

Salah offside first game for his goal, clear penalty denied first game and then tonight a handball missed and a goal wrongly ruled out twice imo.

No side in the world can overcome it, none.

Handball tonight...must have missed that when streams were fucking up...what happened?

Players did their best but Liverpool were the better side over the 2 legs and deserved to go through. They are the only side that caused us major concerns this season every time we played them. Going to be mentally tough at Spurs now we may finish short of some of thos3 records we were hoping for. Awful week for us.

Liverpool probably deserved it over the 2 legs but the very poor decisions by the officials in both games played a major part in the result. It's happening too often to be a coincidence.

Let's just concentrate on wrapping the league up as soon as possible and come back stronger next season.

We will sort our defense next season. Right now it is still work in progress.

We’ve spent £100’s of millions on the defence in the last 3 or 4 years.
There come a point where you have to look at the coaching.

We will win the league this year albeit not as convincingly as it looked a few weeks ago and so we bloody well should. We have the best team in premier league history, in the weakest league in years.

We may just have to accept that the price for employing Pep is that we will disappoint at elite level. His record in Europe is woeful

Absolute sickener of a week. The season can't end soon enough.

We'll lost to Spurs too no doubt, the team's mojo has gone. Lucky we have enough points so we should still get the title but it'll be by a single figure margin.

However, Liverpool got a huge helping hand from the officials in both legs. What did we have over the tie, 3 offside goals? And no penalty in the first leg. And their offside goal counted. And no second yellow tonight for Firminho. Is it corruption, or do we just notice when decisions go against us, especially if we lose?

We really need to spend big on a lethal striker in summer (Salah, Kane, Lewandowski) just fucking bid what it takes to get one of them. The owner and others are desperate for the CL, well we need to shop at the very top table to do that. If not we'll always be short when it comes to this end of the season. Despite the huge commercial income and ambition, why dont we have the money to bid £200m for Salah or Kane?

And we need a powerhouse midfielder to get a control of games and dominate play, like a prime Yaya was.

We need to match rags, PSG and Barca for spending in summer, or we'll get this heartbreaking shit again next year. Beating the likes of Watford and Stoke 6-0 is fun but how about getting players who know how to win huge European ties. Or see out fucking wins at home in the fucking derby.

Fucking done with football this week and the weekend. Couldn't have gone worse.

There was a numbness and an inevitability about that second half for me.
Fair play Liverpool, much the better team over the 2 legs in terms of pragmatic chance taking. Hope you get absolutely fucked in the semi.

Scousers will celebrate but in all honesty they have been handed this tie by corruption. Offside goal in their favour in the 1st leg, nailed on penalty for us not given and a incorrectly disallowed goal for us, and not to mention the coach attack.
The players were superb in the first half, and had their hearts ripped out with that laughable corrupt call. So instead of going in at 2 nil up and buzzing with the crowd buzzing, they were demoralised and saw the manager sent off.

Add to which the two nailed on pens not given in the derby... yet still that cock Owen Hargreaves has just crowed on BT Sport that City's "air of invincibility is well and truly shattered".

Hope we win the last six games, rack up over 100 points, and Liverpool/Rags get shafted in their respective semis.

About 40 chances for us and 3 goals and about 7 chances for the opposition and 5 goals conceeded.

THAT is the problem - not referees.

100 referees could not stop you winning if you do even slightly better than that at either end.

Two poor second halves after two great first halves is a pattern too and not a conspiracy.

We have to win Saturday as losing 4 on the trot will do huge damage to next season even given we do limp over the line this season as of course we will.

This awful week HAS to end fast or our fantastic season will be tarnished and other teams hugely encouraged for next season.

Winning the game tonight even when losing the tie should have been a minimum. But to twice be the better side by miles and capitulate at home is a bit of a concern over mentality somewhere.

Saturday has become one huge game and we have to show we can win again at Wembley.

fully agree

I think a few of these players will need to play for their fututes the next few games. There's a few who have bottled it again.
