Nico G, for me, has been outstanding of late. Doku has still had a couple of poor games but you can see he is slowly starting to piece things together in the City shirt, he was amazing yesterday.

Bang on with Nico, And yes some fans called our Ballon D’Or winner “Plodri” when he first arrived.
 
Watched the highlights again. Can’t believe how much Salah has dropped off. Hardly looks interested, and doesn’t at all when they lose the ball. A few years ago his running down that right hand channel would have been the stuff of nightmares for us. Yesterday he was offside nearly every time he was put through down there, and when he wasn’t, Nico O’Reilly had him in his pocket. Couldn’t believe the number of times Nico went over to challenge him and made it look like he had some sort of ball magnets on his toes - almost effortlessly relieving Salah of the ball every time. That one late on where Nico had been down with cramp a few moments before, then managed to get up, get back and nonchalantly poke the ball away from Salah near the corner was magnificent.

They have been found out big time, and it’s wonderful.

I noticed it on MOTD. I also commented on that exact same look when they equalised at ours just before Sane scored the winner. I've not seen it in another player - it's an arrogance, a smugness, a "they thought they were something didn't they?" kind of look. Wonderful to see it wiped off.

Agree but I think Salah looked poor because he was matched for speed pace & power by our home grown, genuine City fan NICO O’REILLY

Big penalties need to be converted. You know, like Cup Finals and Top 6 games, as a start.

And, what exactly is “went early”??? A keeper can “go” any time he wants, as long as at least one foot is on the line (or behind it) when the kick is taken.

It was an average save. He got down well, but the ball was at least a yard short of the post and Haaland telegraphed the direction. Heresy though it may be, the side foot penalty kick needs to be very exact, and unless Haaland takes them better, it’s going to be a toss up whether he scores going forward. If the keeper guesses right, he’s going to save that penalty every time.

Yes what a wanker he is. I'm at the opposite end of the ground so only saw it on the tv when I got home. The scouse wankers always have to have some excuse when they lose unless just admitting they got hammered.

Despite not having the minutes I think Rodri has been inputting some useful stuff to players like Nico G and Nico O. His value off the pitch is a pretty good match for his work on the ptch.

Albeit not wanting to take anything away from Doku’s wonder strike, part of me was hoping it had caught Van Djyk on the way through … it would have been a ‘hat trick’ for him to tell his grand kids about!

Agreed - and to be honest, a keeper going early is a real help to a decent penalty taker. Le Tissier (47/48 record) said that he'd never look at the keeper and would always run up to the ball intending to place it to the keeper's left, halfway up the net. If he saw the keeper shape to go that way, he'd just bring his foot round more and pop it in the other side. Always committed to a pure strike, though.

If the ball is lifted - not talking about postage stamp - just 3 feet or so - and placed anywhere near either post, then not even the tallest keeper will still be able to reach up high enough at the full extent of their reach.

With sports science being such a part of the game now, it's surprising that so few players seem to treat penalties as a genuine skillset, needing specialist practice. Similar to the way that the best sprinting nations rarely look to have practiced passing the relay baton.

To a man and woman, they can't stand the Dippers. Haven't met one that's positive about them. Not that keen on Uniturd either after trouble at a League Cup Final in the early 90s when there were loads of rags who'd acquired tickets in Forest's section.
