Looking at this it’s ironic that United’s cock up this season has helped us again by lifting us up a pot.
If they had qualified they would still be in pot 1 and everyone else would move down a place.

it made bugger all difference to anyone that United failed to qualify. If they had made it at the expense of Arsenal or Chelsea, United would have been in Pot 1 instead and everyone else would be exactly the same.

This keeps us away from the strong looking teams in pot two until the knock out stages. Time to put together some good CL runs and get into the little cartel that is pot 1

going off what i've seen of the rankings we're on 72 now with the points from 5 years ago being 3. This mean when they drop off we'll be on 69 + what ever next seasons points are. This season we got 22.3, so assuming we match that then that would put us on 91, which would see us comfortably in pot 2 and anything else is seen as a bonus. Then the year after the 16 point season drops off and we hopefully we'll be ready to make a run at the later stages from that point with a quarter final place getting roughly 26 points. In 2/3 years time we could be pushing for pot 1. The one sticking point is the final season under mancini which only got us 10 points.

Been saying this for years, champs in pot 1, runners up pot 2 etc. this ranking system is a load of shite that again is just made to protect the regulars.

Tennis seeding doesn't take the last five years results into consideration, it's much more responsive.

The problem with seeding over five years is that it rewards consistent mediocrity to the point it becomes self-fulfilling. Arsenal are a great case in point. They've been in pot 1 for the past five years and have never won a knock out tie in that time either. All we know is that they can get through a group if they're seeded.

It's part of the reason why the notion of a shadowy agenda against City is nonsense. Institutionally and transparently UEFA competition is biased towards established clubs.

Personally I'd get rid of seedings altogether and actually have some decent games in Europe before Christmas for a change. You'd still end up with top teams in the semis/final if that's what everyone is worried about.

It will probably end up playing into our hands. We'll have pot one, qualify after four games and send the kids out for the dead rubbers like the other big teams do. Then it won't be fair on someone else. It's a shit competition in the most part, it really is.

The fact that 2 of the top seeds haven't even qualified for the group stage and have to do qualifiers which will again be seeded so they cant play each other just illustrates how corrupt the competition is, its not about competition its about ensuring the original group of of clubs get their annual meal ticket to keep them massively above competing teams in their home leagues to ensure continued particpation next year.

If Arsenal got drawn against Porto with 40m at stake in August it would definitely be worth watching, but they will fix it so Arsenal and Porto both go through to pot 1 via a team of part time farmers in Luxemborugh or something.
