Liverpool Post Match Thread

3 wins in last 8 league games now & they were all at home against Norwich, Bournemouth & Newcastle. 11 points from last 24 is not title winning form. The momentum from the 5 straight wins at the start of the season has been well & truly lost.

We were lucky to win one of those too!

Villa with 7 losses out of 8 and we couldn't even score against them. New manager bounce is blamed yet the week after with the same new manager who has had a further week to work with them, they get hammered 4-0!

The start to the season has glossed over what has been some very average and sloppy performances.

The fact we still rely almost totally on Kompany and Silva after all this time and the investment made since is laughable.

We also decide to go into the season with 2 strikers when one of them is known to be injury prone is even more baffling.

I was staggered when I heard Pelle say he would pick the same team again. I fear our season is sliding into a deep dark hole if he has no awareness of the mistakes he makes. Personally, I'd bin him right now and get Ancelloti in place - with the squad we have, he would turn us into the team that we should be.

yesterday apart the reason is obvious: Injury to our very best players.

Whether we recover and win the league is down entirely to overcoming the injury problems. At least we got one back yesterday although it will be a month before he is back to normal. get Silva back, and we will be well on our way.

The good thing is that the league is wide open, and with a third of the season gone we are still in a fantastic position. No one has a better squad than us. It's just a question of us getting Silva, and Aguero back on the pitch and one of Otamendi and Kompany with Mangala. That's the spine of the team

We're in a bit of a slump, right now - and no doubt about it.
That said, we're still in the race for the league, still favourites for the COC cup and one game away from topping our Chump's Lg group.
Yesterday, was a nightmare and Pelligrini was far too slow to make changes.
He's not a fool though. He knows he made mistakes. I'm not his biggest fan but I'm not about to start reaching for the pitchfork either.
In short, the manager is still in a position to lead us to our greatest ever season. Any talk if sacking him under such circumstances is ludicrous.

And if he said otherwise he'd have to elaborate. No manager apart from Mourinho criticises his players in public after a bad defeat. You don't think Ancelotti gets it wrong from time to time.

I think City are intent on appointing Guardiola at the end of this season and have been for years, but whether that happens is down to Bayern, and Guardiola. We aren't going to do anything until that position becomes clear.

Agree. Although I might change my mind if he repeats yesterday's team selection again.

I assumed you meant today, as that is what this thread is about, you should have made it clear you thought they were OK today, and I'd have said nothing, I don't read minds.

Ultimately....

Too many shit days for manager, who is lucky to have the job he has with players who get him out of shit. His CV will be better than he ever deserved. With a better manager, who works harder with better knowledge this squad would have, and would, achieved more. He's a bad manger managing a good team, yesterday showed what a good manager can do with mainly average players just like the guy at our neighbours

Arsenal will play in a similar but not quite so energetic manner. But with better players. If Pellegrini decides to be a manager for the day ,we will beat them. If he decides to be a stubborn stupid old ****, we will get fucking mullered worse than yesterday.

Oh shit, I've just bought tickets for the Emirates. Bollox!!

Yet still some people won't accept just how shite we were at Villa Park.
As for the two striker thing; it's not too bad when the attacking mids contribute a few. KDB and Yaya might, Silva should but rarely shoots and Sterling and Navas have been bloody awful in front of goals this season. Sterling is still potential and should improve, but Navas managed a few when we won the league so why is he doing the cow's arse and banjo routine so often this season?

And why can't we cross a ball? Kolarov hit the first defender a few times yesterday without the defender having to move. The crosses weren't blocked they were hit directly at the man.

Many managers say: " I got it wrong" & then don't elaborate.

He is effectively saying "I got it right but the players were shit" . That is criticising ALL the players in public but absolving himself of blame, which is classic Mourinho.

That is the clear message I received from his comments.

Two CB's thrust into a game together, one with no legs and the other running round like a baby elephant looking for its mother.

With Fernando in front expecting to plug the gaps on his own against a high energy Liverpool six.

Buffoonery at its fucking finest.

The only decent thing about yesterday was that when I got back to my car, I put the heated seat on, turned the heating up to max, and began to defrost.

Stayed to the end, people to either side left when Lurch scored the 4th.

Shit performance, obviously(ahem) saving themselves for Juve. CBA reading through all the pages, but has anyone mentioned the East Stand's lino's understanding of the off-side law which gave them at least 2 goals? Having said that, "you lucky bastards, it should have been ten".

We've seen it all before - we go again!

I was at a family function yesterday and so missed the game, all i have seen are the goals and so it isn't really fair of me to offer an opinion on the game. However the one thing i can say is that the moment I saw that team sheet my heart sank and i knew we were going to be up against it. What makes it even worse is that most supporters felt the same, Yaya in a midfield 2 rarely works and certainly not against a team managed by Klopp. The one thing we had to do yesterday was to match their work rate and effort in the midfield and you can't do that when you are so out numbered.

If Yaya starts at Juve then there is something wrong, Pelle seems to being losing the plot at the moment.

Yep. Pellegrinis fuck up no doubt. Otamendi and Dinho had to start.

Never thought I'd say this but Kolarov was City's best defender, and MP has to go best squad in the league and they play like that shocking

He doesn't have to say anything except that we paid poorly and were made to pay for it by an excellent Liverpool team. Off course Ancelotti gets it wrong from time to time, but I would say his track record suggests he maybe learns from those mistakes and doesn't keep repeating them in the vain hope that somehow it'll all come good one day.

If as you say we are just hanging on like some creepy stalker for Pep then my estimation of the hierarchy has gone down. Nobody runs a business like that - particularly with football where it is all about the here and now. We can not write-off another season, especially one where the current champions are an absolute shambles.
